The news is an important service for alot of people however sometimes black peoples portrayal in the news is negative

The news is an important service however it is owned by companies and organisations that would like make a profit and organisations that have an agenda

The question I have for thecoli is do you think that News companies like Fox News, CNN, CNBC and BBC which is government owned should be trusted? Do They have an agenda?

And because these companies are white owned, do you think they use their power and use the fact news companies and shows are very trusted, to influence the minds of people, and sometimes present a false positive white caucasian front.

All news stations are biased and anyone that says otherwise is a lie. Look at the news analyst body language and tone as they tell certain stories and it tells you all you need to know. It's why it's a complete joke when news outlets gripe and complain about "journalistic integrity" like it's an actual thing these days.

IIRC Ronald Reagan is the reason these news companies are all operating as left wing and right wing propaganda tools today, instead of just being objectivly neutral reporters of current events.
Back in the day they were legally required to present differing perspectives for each subject and let the viewer decide which one is correct. now they will spend 24 hours bashing one side or the other.
Reagan is the one i believe who changed the law.

Edit: FCC fairness doctrine

I mostly agree. Reagen fukked up a lot of things in this country. We're currently living out the results of his decisions today.

Also, what MSM network is left wing? CNN and MSNBC are centrist at best, which is pretty far left from the radical right propaganda of Fox News. We don't really have a left wing MSM network because MSM is almost entirely driven by profit motives.

When it comes time for war all the networks are on the same page and are hawkish.
When Bernie was running all the networks disavowed him to varying degrees.
When it comes to climate change CNN and MSNBC at least pay it lip service, while Fox News acts like it doesn't exist.

There are certainly not any left wing news channels that are as egregious with their views as Fox news is with the right wing stuff. and while I would agree that CNN is centrist. i find MSNBC to be a bit more leftist.

Agreed. The news is never left wing. One of the biggest and most blatant problems in this country is Fox News is damn near shown everywhere especially in public places. You will see CNN too but not nearly as prevalent as Fox. Not to mention CNN be on that bull too. You will rarely ever see MSNBC in public spheres and its hardly promoted as the alternative. We don’t have a real left wing news outlet in any really capacity in mainstream media but Fox News and everyone will call the media liberal when it’s in fact the polar opposite.

you and @Luke Cage have brought up some good info.. Wasn't aware of the FCC act. I think things went up a notch due to Fox. I forget which article it was but Fox hired I think it was the Creative Diretor from ESPN and he had the mandate of switching neutral news reporting to a Sports reporting style. I'm over simplifying it, but look at the similarity between how sports is reported and news now. The goal was to turn it into entertainment.

Brings to mind this Noam Chomsky video:

I like NPR the most. They're publicly funded rather than advertiser driven, so they're not beholden to corporate interests. They also cover black news and culture much more than any other network and with much more care as well. I trust their journalism and though they have a slight slant to the left, I do feel that they cover each side well and try to give the most well rounded version that they can. Check them out, I use them as my home page npr.org. The only problem is that they usually don't have a lot of stories on their website, so I also have a subscription to the new york times, since it's only $4 a month.

Their radio station out here in the bay is a-1 too. Haven't tuned in in a while, but it's a great way to spend a commute and they have really good music, which is often hip-hop oriented during their intermissions (same people that do Tiny Desk concerts.) Science fridays are kind of boring, but most other times it's good.
