i didnt see a thread on dude anywhere.. was wondering what the coli thought
he has some questionable satire in the 80s thats kind of weird, but i assume he was doing that while mocking conservative views, but the "thing-fish" stuff rubbed me the wrong way and ive yet to hear the entire album. i think he wanted to lampoon racism but it was so heavyhanded i cant tell. i think his satire ran in the same vein as guys like randy newman, where they inhabited the character to make a point. of course, i could be wrong here, but thats my interpretation.
i do know that he started out playing in r&b groups in the 50s. he was a member of the Blackouts, one of the first integrated bands in rock ever. white people threw an absolute fit at seeing black and white teenagers dance together, so they got threatened and jailed a lot. i do know he was a libertarian in the 1980s, before they were a euphemism for 'republican.'
i know of that famous george clinton quote, and towards the end of his life zappa said that if not for rap, there would be no american poetry left
i was wondering what the coli thought about him
