His flow/cadence/enunciation is arguably dead last among this generation like I said. Kendrick, Drake, Cole, Meek, Rocky, Big Sean, Rick Ross all have him beat here. Can he convey emotion vocally like Meek does on a track like Traumatized?

His production is solid, he picks good beats but his projects lack sonic cohesion he does not seem to have a signature sound. Drake borrows from late 90's and early 00's R&B recently he's added dancehall and Afrobeat influence. Kendrick borrows heavily from jazz and funk, Cole is a soul sampler heavily influenced by College Dropout. Ross has his luxurious sound and trap records. What is Wale's signature sound?

He lacks identity and a personal connection with fans, he doesn't get personal enough.

As far as critical acclaim and penetrating the culture he doesn't have a Take Care, good kid, M.a.a.d City, Live. Love. A$AP, tapes on the level of Friday Night Lights. How can he be ranked ahead of his peers when they put out better projects than him. His best album is Ambition and it's a solid 7 out of 10 album.

Wonder what stops Wale from clearly expressing his emotions on tracks tho. He does it everywhere else :jbhmm:

Prolly has to do with his age. He grew up in a era where rappers just rapped. He prolly thinks that thats all he needs to do to gain his accolades.

I agree.

Something about that part of his records is irritating.

Not his voice but his words sound weird and unclear at times
Brehs so much this. He says all this slick shyt but you can barely catch it because you can't really understaNd him on certain songs.

He just lacks clarity on a lot of songs (that I hear)

nikka really said the migos :russ:

Wale just needs to keep having fun & make good global music

Stop trying to satisfy everybody

Its like critics & fans like to slight him just to see him react because he will

If his next album is good i think they will finally give him his props

But dude been lowkey just as consistent as rozay

Pretty much the whole mmg has been underrated & slighted for the last few years

I think wale & the whole crew about make a big statement this summer though :manny:

Wale is talented and has a lot of songs I like but his biggest problem boils down to one word....identity. Wale doesn't have a true artistic identity whatsoever. What exactly is his story? Cole, Kendrick, Drake, Meek, and so on make records that tell their basic life story.

Drake= the pressures of fame, the highs and lows of relationships, stories about his family
Kendrick= the turmoil of growing up in Compton, social commentary
Meek= growing up in the streets of Philly, pops dead, hustling and struggling
Cole= following his dreams, making it out of a town like Fayetville where people rarely make it, social commentary

What do we really know about Wale? He likes Seinfield, Sports, and Sneakers. Ok, what else?
Bingo

Be better at choruses. Make hits for other artists. Not ghostwriting. Choruses and features. Like "No hands".

Take future for example. Sounded incoherent when he first came out (still does to alotta people) but he did choruses for alotta hits. People skip verses mentally if they don't like the artist but it's kinda hard to skip a chorus esp. when it's a hit all over. So without even thinkin about it people will end up listenin to how you talk so they can understand the words, and that transfers to your solo shyt. At least imo. You gotta make shyt that even people don't like you be like "I can't lie so and so killed the chorus." Hard to hate a nikka when you're screamin his shyt in the club/ drivin

Alot of it is the machine too. He's not in publications too, no one's promoting him as the "it" guy outside of himself and fans.

Also most hiphop fans can't listen to nothin with no aggression + fukkery and he's 0 for 2 on that overall

Stop tweeting and doing interviews.. Then release A LOT of free music...
this too
