What era has the best production??

87-89 was better IMO.

In my mind my time scale is around 92 - 97/8. That would encompass a lot of incredible production work to me, with Havoc, DJ Premier, Johnny J, Dr Dre, RZA and others.

90-96. You gotta have 96 since Hell On Earth was such an amazing album from a production standpoint. 97 was too shiny suit and 98 gets into Swizz

Yeah, Hell On Earth was included in my time frame. There was some production I really liked on Life After Death and Reasonable Doubt too. All Eyez On Me too, Infamous, Illmatic, OB4CL, if I included Moment Of Truth could be 98 too. Infamous is certainly 1 of the best produced albums I've heard.

The Kanye, Just Blaze era was good but not as good as the mafioso era IMO

samples is why we'll never have that east coast sound... so much of it was samples.. even when ye and blaze started doing the sped up soul samples (great era too).. it was all about samples

then they changed the law saying no matter how short, you gotta pay.. it was too expensive and then you started getting those keyboard and ringtone beats.... followed up by the fruityloops era

but you right... that was 80s first

i was gonna say, the music of today is loud,yes but it doesn't Pound like the older music does. the kicks on most songs before 2006 are louder than the bass lines of today's songs

i don't think trap music today has even surpassed this yet

the east coast sound doesnt have to rely on samples. shoot, i voted the mid-80s, which was 90% east coast and not nearly as sample-heavy as other eras. and theres been alot of outstanding east coast production in recent years that never got its props because they werent stamped & pushed by record labels.

im good. im not stressing the samples that much.
