:manny: Honestly, seeing the hatred that many blacks have here for homosexuals makes me realize that we (by and large) aren't ready for respect

Oops. There goes the truth again. Many brehs want to cry about oppression and how it's not fair but then turn around and use those same ideologies to be sexist or homophobic.

A lot of y'all don't deserve respect cuz y'all still operate like boys.

if you think a few black people saying mean things on the internet in anyway justifies 400 years of systematic oppression, murder, rape and pillaging then please for the benefit of everyone black go tell tamir rice's killer how sorry you are for the inconvenience, take his gun and blow your fukking brains out. as you're nothing but a waste of space on this earth and i hope your child understands your position if they ever meet the same fate

I get that, but to sit here online and see how we really feel must make you feel some sort of way ... especially since it's almost natural for people to want to bury their head in the sand and pretend that all is well with the world.

It was interesting the first time I read this forum :heh:

Then again, you have to take the Coli in perspective. It's not real life, but it's a perception of real life seen through the prism of internet bravado, social isolation, trolling, Hip hop culture, and genuine, real shyt all mixed together. It can be really informative and really stupid. But I love it :russ: And I've learned some things :ehh:

PLEASE READ THIS POST

no breh...I didn't miss the point. I think you missed my point.

I'm not some "anti white" poster like a lot of people here are (or claim to be). I don't have a bias against anyone and have plenty of friends of all races (white included)

Your whole post was "hey white people...listen to black people" and I dig that. But posting it on a primarily black forum is exactly what is wrong with the 10-20% of white people you mention in your original post. Interjecting this rhetoric HERE is unnecessary.

Your opinion on what white people should do to help black people is misguided because...you aren't a black person.

You are basically saying... here's a blueprint on how "we" can help "black people" right?

But if you aren't a black person, you aren't an authority on how to help black people. You are an outsider (of this demographic) so interjecting your opinion on what you can do to help is based on your perspective... not ours.

I don't think what you are saying is BAD at all. But I'll tell you as a black person, I don't need your empathy or sympathy. I don't need you to "listen" I don't need your unearned respect, I don't need your pat on the back, I don't need false esteem because of how the system is biased against my skin color, I don't need emotional, spiritual, or any other non-tangible type of support, I don't need a false sense of security, I don't need you to create hashtags, signs, partake in demonstrations, or step in front of a police officer for me (further showing right in my face the injustices of how the social and criminal justice sector sees us). I don't need someone to befriend me, I don't need pity, I don't need any gesture of support that is based on "well I'm white and he's black so I feel bad because of the system so I'm going to stand by my fellow American". I don't need ANY of that.

What I do need from white people, as a black person, is for you to boycott your bank, boycott your institutions, change the judicial system by passing legislature, remove your financial privilege from oppressive institutions until we have equal representation within tangible fields. I need white people to change laws that are discriminatory, socially police yourselves without us having to do so, change the system. Fix the issues that for years have been unaddressed within the country.

All this other "I got your back, let's lend an ear" bullshyt isn't going to do anything. All that does is allow WHITE PEOPLE to sleep easier while Black people wake up in the same situation that they were in the night before.

First off, 80-90% of white folks are either ignorant of, unwilling to understand, or understand and accept structural and institutional racism. Educational outreach is important to help the ignorant ones, but this thread isn't about them. This includes both outwardly racist folks and the "colorblind" idiots.

But for the 10-20% who actually do realize that racism is endemic to American life and white supremacy is the original sin upon which this country was built on, in my experience many bring some of the behaviors endemic to an unbalanced power structure into their critique and activism. This includes:

1. Patronizing black folks
2. Feeling entitled that their opinions on the "struggle" are the most important
3. Unwilling to listen to black perspectives

You see this a lot among the white liberal types. And while they are certainly less harmful than the Klan member conservative types, they're still not being very productive.

Here's the point of all of this: white people, we can sympathize with black struggle, but we can NEVER empathize. To white people, discrimination based on race is some abstract wrong that needs to be corrected, and we know it's wrong, but it's something far away, it's distant. We will NEVER actually experience what it feels like to be singled out because of the color of the skin. We will NEVER experience the multifaceted oppression of black urban or rural poverty. We will NEVER fully understand the experiences and emotions associated with being black in America. That's privilege.

So let's be respectful and listen.
Post your manifesto somewhere else where it actually counts..
