Long Live The Chief was dope but I always wondered how long the suit gimmick was going to last. Good to see he's still out here though

His gimmick was his style of dress..... and being a model/artsy type turned rapper wasn't going to work out with how infrequently he put out music.

Pandering to LGBT/Blavity types didn't help either...they don't buy albums, or support artists to the point to sustain a career.
LGBT don't buy albums? They be having Lady Gaga, Adele, Beyonce, and them doing number numbers even when they lowkey fall off. LGBT just don't really care for male artist specifically Black ones

Aside from the Janelle Monae affiliated LGBT pandering, the music was weak.
He had plenty of engagement, if he woulda dropped some actual jams then he woulda been alright.
Janelle Monae and her crew are style over substance.

Leaned into a demo that didn't even fukk with him like that plus it was clear from the get that the marketing team was asleep at the wheel cause he couldn't seperate himself from Janelle's shadow and schtick.

Random afterthought but I dug up Fonzworth Bentley's mixtape Colours and that shyt aged better than I expected. Dude lowkey made a great album to vibe out to,Venice Beaches,Don't speak,Believe it, Everybody,C.o.l.o.u.r.s. are solid songs.

Whenver the social movements come before the music, you know the music isn't going to last. I remember Kyjuan from the St Lunatics wanted to start a movement about only eating one meal a day before I had ever heard a song of his. That's when I knew that outside of Nelly, none of them dudes were going to be anything.

Corny gimmicks have no longevity. He was already on his way out the moment he blew up. Never liked him.

His targeted fanbase was black women. Leaning into the gay stuff combined with his metrosexual look probably didn't help his marketability to that demo.

Also, didn't he have a 'school' where he said he would take kids off the corner and teach them how to dress in suits and behave like gentelmen? That's suspect as fukk

Straight folks also have them albums, those artists aren't solely in the realm of LGBT folks. Those artists largest demographic are straight women.

The Blavity/LGBT types only latched onto him cause he portrayed an image that was the antithesis of what rappers were....they just wanted to shake their asses at parties and brunch and fawn over someone who didn't appear to conflict with their identity politics.
