highest on ice time per game this season is 28:14 out of 60 minutes
while highest minutes per game in the nba is 39.5 out of 48 minutes

they could clean the ice quicker than 20 minutes. trim that shyt down to 15 minutes atleast. i went to a game for the first time in forever and they use 2 zamboneys now. there were a bunch of breaks for tv timeouts too.
hockey is fukking tiring. that's why my cousins stopped playing, and they had scholarships for a bit. might be the most demanding sport. my dad used to play in a league too and after games, him and his friends all looked dead

The thing with hockey is that like Football, when you're on the field of play you're going 110% intensity. If you've seen a basketball game up close you know that's not how NBA players play until the 4th quarter.

you realize these guys are skating at the equivalent speed of a sprint right?

then add in the fact there's actual contact happening all the time in hockey, being hit against the boards, blocking shots with their body, etc without play stoppages and it's not too hard the fatigue buildup.

and no, there's nowhere near as many tv timeouts as hockey.

I don't see what's interesting about it but to indulge you, yes, in basketball, players are able to get extended rests on the bench during gameplay and the excessive timeouts by teams and media. Hockey only has 1 team timeout throughout the entire game. The way hockey substitutions work don't allow those types of breaks either. Hence the longer breaks between periods. It's also an opportunity to clean and fix the ice to allow optimal play
you white?

you got nba players who play for 40 minutes a game. you're telling me that hockey players need to rest for 40 minutes a game?:ohthatsintradesting:

NBA players have a lot of breaks (timeout, deadballs, etc) a hockey player doesn't now I don't think it should be 2 x 20 minute breaks but I can see why they do it.
