I was just thinking this.
Like G funk was like the most popular form of rap. Soulful, street, gangster and everything in between. It had to been hot until 1996 atleast. Then just 4 years later...

Crazy how hip hop went from 2pac, biggie, deathrow etc.. to Nelly, in ONLY 4 years

lol,

but real talk tho, just sit back and think. Hip Hop changed so much from 96 to 2000. Thats just 4 fukking years.
I feel like hip hop changed more in those 4 years, than it has in the last 10
Which gives me hope that this repetitive trap beat shyt will soon be over also

The artist representing it fell off.

Nelly made a splash when he did because no one at the time was making uptempo "fun" records, plus no one was use to seeing an artist from our city.

Nothing really killed it, had a good 5 year run in the mainstream and still exists today in some format. Consumers move on :yeshrug:

If you wanted to pinpoint the shift, I reckon this album changed the direction music was going in after it dropped. But shyt even Dre was moving away from it by 95-96 as well.

2000 was a bunch of super thugs in million dollar videos, drinking cristal with mansions on the background.

Exactly, super thugs...Nelly didn't portray that at all even though quiet as kept, he's realer than a lot of rap nikkas.
