What exactly makes Russell Wilson a “square”?

I don’t necessarily think he’s a square but he doesn’t conduct himself or think as someone beholden to African-American society/culture. Outside of skin tone...nothing about him seems like a Black man or someone who identifies with the Black experience...here’s a quote of his regarding Kaepernick/Kneeling:

“For me, I love the flag. I love the National Anthem because it's an emotional time for me because I'm so grateful I get to play on the football field. And every time I get to put my hand on my heart, it's truly an honor -- you know, the military, for me I think about my family members who have served, and friends -- I train down in San Diego all the time, so I'm around the Navy and I see those guys around. And all they do for our country and the people in Afghanistan and all these people fighting. 9/11, for example, coming up“. - Russell Wilson

This is something a White person would say straight up. So when you factor in that he speaks with the cadence and tone of the average White American and has thoughts congruent with White society then it is understandable why Black people would be like “homeboy is corny”. Many Black people have spoken proper English like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King and no calls them a square cuz the content and cadence is clearly consistent with someone who has had an African American experience.

To hell with cadence, but your comment is the first one to make sense to me regarding his 'blackness'. Thank you for using logic and providing evidence(I don't know how true it is, but regardless you made a great point).

Most woman wouldnt date russ who was a 8 or up if he wasnt famous.

He a athlete so people think he cant be a nerd when he is

Not knocking but russ would always get the fine chick after she got knocked up by a street dude or future type

If ciara was 22 she never date russ.

Not true! I think Russ is hella cute and I would have been all up on him if he was in my AP class.

You determing who's a square by what type of girl is choosing. It's plently of fine girls that would have picked Russ.

But you equate fine with chicks that be all on the scene trying to be popular. He probably wouldn't have gotten play from the girl that wants to be with the flashiest dude she can find.

But he would have had a buffet of bookworms and quiet girls. And we NOT all ugly.
exactly!!

To me Russell comes off as inauthentic. That's my personal definition of a square.

But he's a damn good dude and a positive role model so I wouldn't dare utter those words in front of a black kid looking up at him. Just the way I see things. Don't like him, but I'm glad he's there in the public's eye.

Yes. Apparently you see integrity in kids only having one parent, or none in the case of orphans.
That nikka said some of the dumbest shyt I think I seen on thecoli. T.I. has a stepdaughter, nikka a square. So does fabolous, so he square. So did Style P, he square. So did P Diddy, he square. Not to mention all those foster parents out there. They all square with no integrity. I'd ban that nikka if I was a moderator.

He's not a square because he speaks well (from what you'll are saying, I've never actually heard) or whatever. He's taking care of another man's seed. That's the epitome of square. Didn't Ciara make him put a ring on it before he could smash or something like that as well ?
because square dudes are the only people who wife sloppy 2nds and single mothers right?:camby:

He's a square. I'm a thousandaire and the idea of being with "Ciara" gives me hives. The most I can do for women like that is mentor their kids and give them insight whenever I can but, I can't be Mr. Cleanup man for chicks that thought it was smart to have children with unreliable men. If I was a millionaire like Russ, it wouldn't even be a consideration.

It's pretty maddening seeing this nonsense online.

Especially knowing these are the attitudes white people think are prevalent within black communities.
