dragon's dogma was too piff in that regard. every class had fun combat. I felt like a genuine mountain-buster as a sorcerer, shyt was a spectacle. pick warrior class if I wanted to feel like guts from berserk. pick ranger if I wanted to feel like legolas from LOTR. every class was viable and changed up how you approached combat considerably :whew:

I'm playing metal gear rising for the first time right now and the combat is straight piff :wow: i've heard DMC4 and Bayo 2 were even better :lupe:

My favorite genre is beat em up/character action games, for this very reason. I love a game with good swordsplay.

So off the top of my head

Devil May Cry series (including DmC, which gets more hate than warranted, but still damn good gameplay)

Ninja Gaiden series (NG 2 being the GOAT)

Damn near anything made by platinum, their GOAT games being Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising

I have faith in Scalebound, cause just like Capcom's DMC team was given a chance to make a RPG and made the classic Dragon's Dogma, a platinum made rpg could be good as fukk. Imagine a RPG open world game with the metal gear rising combat you're playing now

Kingdoms of Armalur actually had really good combat for an RPG. Unfortunate that the developer went under afterwards I feel like that IP had a lot of potential and maybe that second game would've been the one to really break through and really blow.

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is another game I felt could've been great with the sequel as well. I actually prefer this combat system to Smash Bros ever though SB is an overall much better game. It was a little more strategic in some aspects and probably not as beginner friendly, but I loved it. 1 on 1 matches could get really intense when you both have supers and are trying to avoid your opponent's attack while still tryna get into position for your own.

Def Jam Fight for New York gotta be my favorite fighting game ever:wow:. Celebrity fighters aside the actual fighting mechanics we really really good and fun to play. Def Jam Icon was fukking WOAT tho:francis:
