I'm disgusted with you people.....

I respect this man for doing his own thing and following his own journey.

Look man, I didn't even read the article so I dont know his story... All I know is this nikka picked a raggedy ass HBCU over the #1 school in the country...
A top school doesn't guarantee success. He's branded himself , he will be well-off at the very least. He's only 20 now... and I chose to go to a average school at 16 just like this nikka. over much better ones that I was accepted to in tx, ny, MI. I only applied just to see.......... but you can't knock a kid for going where he's comfortable.

Perfect example of having the wrong people in his ear. The professional world don't care about your religious life, the simple fact he has a lapse in enrollment may stop a future hire. Regardless of the well documented racial issues on Ivy League campuses having the opportunity to do so is for majority of people a once in a lifetime thing. Generations of families lived and died without that opportunity.

Its also insane that he stopped school to follow a spiritual path. That's all fine and dandy, but they elders in his life should have told him to finish what he started first. I applaud his spiritual pursuits, but not taking these opportunities my hinder this young man in the future.

I wish him the best though.
Who gives a fukk what familiies lived and died without the chance at Ivy league.... a kid who is accepted does so with his own determination.... he doesn't owe anyone shyt....... He spiritual life and/or over all character are just as if not more important than his education.... wtf is a degree without that?

"The world of the future belongs not to the “A” students, but to those who can embrace change, see the future and anticipate its needs, and respond to new opportunities and challenges with creativity and agility and passion."

Translation: Valedictorians don’t make good entrepreneurs and investors because they’re afraid of risk. They make great employees.
But this kid is showing the qualities of not just being a good test taker , studier, and nerd......... he's taking chances.. while he's young.... people recover from any decision in their 20s 30's....... I'm sure he can bounce back from a decision he made as a 16 year old.

Plenty, without those families there would be no opportunity to begin with. Our generation is WAY to comfortable with shytting on the ancestors that bled and died to even give us the option. I don't think going spiritual is bad at all, but you don't put a career on hold for it. You should be doing both, every pastor aint Creflo Dolla or Joel Osteen. If a life of struggle is what you want that's cool. But a MAN finishes what he starts, and the MEN around him shoulda told him that.

It's interesting you say this because I get the feeling you completely looked
over the "I too am harvard" article.
Right in the very article ( which I'm sure you can look up)
several students detailed instances where they had to deal with a
sort of benign racism. i.e. backhanded compliments on their speech,
attire and musical interests and dealing with tokenism.
A few even had to deal with some outright stuff like called one young
woman who was called "Shaniqua" (or something roughly equivalent to that)
and another was called a "N*****".

While I agree in that I don't think ALL the white students at any given campus are
racist, I totally and completely disagree with your dismissal of any racism outright.

On topic :
I don't know what this kid was going through in his life, all I know is he squandered
or is in the middle of squandering a monumental chance that few get.
I mean, the dude was working at Apple, before he was 20.
That's crazy if you think about it.
if it's not in a stat book, c00ns and crackker apoligist can't see it or will deny it. They say it's because they want blacks to "study harder" or ignore racism..... but it's really because they feel a certain way about the potential of black children... they feel as cac feel - we are unmotivated, ignorant, and filled with excuses.

The truth is.... yeah black students have to push through all that shyt----- but that doesn't make all that shyt inconsequential... You think a black student getting finished with a speech or a project and getting backhanded complements and patronizing remarks has zero effect...... you think they can't join the best study groups and networking clubs without acting very "new black"? all that shyt has an effect.

:patrice:

Damn I'm about to deal with this exact same dilemma for business school. I got into a top 5 school where there are clearly some people who blow me out of the water. A top 10 school when I fit in just fine... and a top 20 school where I'd be one of the smarter people there.

I dunno if I agree with Mr. Gladwell... maybe for undergrad but not for grad school. I think people at that point are old enough to where they're mature enough to benefit from being around smarter folks. Plus GPA doesn't matter for recruiting.
Is this a grad school?

nah.

Go to the best place you can.

Yes....He's just beginning to write his chapter in life...He's only 20 and was working as a software engineer for Apple as a teenager.......

The aptitude is obviously there, he just feels like he's being pigeon holed and has a lot more to offer than just working a well paying 9 to 5....

Let him cook....People on here only want him to graduate from Harvard to help their self esteem and insecurities, and they could give a fukk less about the kid and what HE really wants.....They just want him to graduate from Harvard so they can feel better in front of white folks.....

Sorry, but I equate finding religion in 2014 with some degree of mental handicap or instability (more the latter in his case).

He didn't shyt on anyone though....... have you been paying attention to America..... him working hard and getting into the top Ivy L school is a tribute to his ancestors .... He could be knocking nikkas out on Worldstar, or barely getting into CC...... he studied and worked hard - and him being able to make his own choices is also what they fought for.

He started a degree program...... he will finish, the nikka is 20 years old, not 35... he can finish with ease but if he wants to do some other shyt in the mean time who cares. I have cousins younger than me who finished masters programs before i ever entered one.... i traveled to world n did some shyt first...... fukk what the MEN around you have to say----- yolo and you have to be your own MAN

obviously apple and every other top corporation in our nation doesn't have a problem with it.

:ohhh: I will admit, I ' m shocked that people hire based on intelligence and skill and not one's inclination towards being spiritual.

You're right that is the point....... the animosity that someone like you would have towards his religious path is really childish and irrelevant to anything of consequence.

I call it like I see it.

This guy is saved ONLY by his ability to provide some worth to the world VIA him working for apple.

Thats all that matters in any case.
