That truly was the last of an era in the game, it was just a ill time in the music/streets, the lines were getting blurrier and blurrier. Shyne was my favorite rapper at the time.
I hate what all this did to Shyne's career..His debut album didn't drop until almost a year after the shooting happened & he went to jail right after..His career was pretty much over before it started

He wasn't ready to drop til late 2000, those early tracks are really rough. Some you can hear where the finalizing and mastering of the tracks would have improved them, but the bulk of 'Shyne', is much stronger than all those shelved ones. I believe it was an entire album, that was shelved.

My brother's keeper
The conventional wisdom is that Puff let Shyne take the fall for him.
Not quite.
Shyne refused the services of Puff's legal team. Refused to let Puff pay for a lawyer. Hired his own bullshyt attorney.
Shyne got on the stand and told on himself like a dummy.
He freely admitted to having and firing his gun inside the club on the stand.
He said something to the effect of "Hell yeah! They was tryna kill me!":demonic:
Puff's testimony was on some Nino Brown shyt.
"Gun? No! I love God and I abhor violence!":whoa::to:
You know how it turned out.:sas1:
I def remember him not wanting Puff's lawyers. shyt wasn't making sense

@CrimsonTider

End of the 90's for one....The end of meglomaniac Puff who was running wild in 99, fresh of Biggie's death, and my childhood too, the end of 8th grade, the kind of dying late 90's style and sound, like Life And Times of S. Carter Vol. 3 was released a few days before the shooting. Mase had left the rap game, the Bad Boy sound was flailing, Jay was looking for direction too, but what they did was still so dope. Nas had just dropped Nastradamus, which set the stage for Jay/Nas, and all that followed. Beanie Sigel was still a barely recognized name, a grimy nasal voice on a Puff feature, or Hard Knock Life Vol. 2. Hype Williams had just dropped Belly, the year prior. There just aren't albums like that and "Forever" (for all it's flaws anymore), I am sure I wrapped up in nostalgia of it all, but the early 2000's had a way different feel than the last few years of the 90's.

And as for the streets, this felt like the last days of top record sellers and mainstream figures still figuring out the transition. Jay caught a case that year, Puff and Shyne LIT UP A CLUB in MIDTOWN with an A list celebrity in tow. Wild shyt. And look at those guys now, to see how it's all changed, and how far it has all come.

Now, the cases are federal indictments for C list rappers mostly, and we can watch every detail in the Justice Department documents, back then, you read MTV News or whatever.

I'd dap you twice for this post, if I could.

NYC clubs and nightlife in general are so completely different now compared to the venues of the 90's.

I'm about to show my age but I'm sure most younger posters may never have heard of spots like Limelight, Sound Factory, Club NV or Twilo. Pretty much lawless once you got in. Massive spots like Twilo where, if you showed up with your friends and lost track of them during the night, you pretty much lost them for the night because remember, no cell phones.

I don't care how young you are though, all real Hip Hop fans should have heard of the Tunnel.

Eastside of that Motor
Puff is in the club stunting, basically being puff.
Some hood nikka gets jealous of puffs ability to stunt that hard
Hood nikka runs up on puff and tells puff "you not the only nikka with money" and throws a bunch of money at puff
Security goes to get hood nikka out of there.
Shots go off at puffs crew, shyne shoots back
Bystanders are hit by other shooters
Puff is pulled over with guns
This right here. Except you left out that after Puff separated him and Wolf from Shyne and let the young boy take the wrap by himself. Even tho Wolf was a known shooter and probably would of let off if Shyne hadn't.

Scar and Puff had hits on eachtoher, Shyne was threatened in the washroom by scar people, Wolf was going to handle the situation like he does outside the club but someone inside got trigger happy. Puff is someone u don’t go against in any city but in NYC, Scar was bound to get what was coming from 1999
