I don't think anyone expects him to drop a platinum album, or even an album that goes gold in a timely fashion. We're just saying he could have done better but career (and label) decisions hurt him. We live in a social media driven era, he's one of the absolute funniest dudes on the internet yet his pages are dead silent. He was always a dope feature artist yet has been dead silent outside of a couple tracks in the last few years. You can't waste your prime recording hundreds of songs that will never be released. That's not how this industry works anymore unless you're a top tier artist, which he isn't...

Crash Talk had two gold singles which is impressive (Numb Numb Juice and Floating) but overall that shyt didn't do anything they thought it would do. So sure, his time is over...but he could still be doing more than he is, and he could be more successful than he is. He's got the hits and fanbase, the tour+festival success speak for themselves. Why not take advantage of that.
Q’s chart performance and he himself have shown you who he is for the past 11 years. Yet y’all still want to lament shoulda woulda coulda. It’s time to stop whining about what TDE/Q/Soulo should’ve been and accept what they actually did.

outside of his weird Hail Mary with crash talk, Q ain’t really pressed about the next level. That went out the door after oxymoron honestly, that album had everything that should’ve made him a real star plus it dropped at the right time, but it didn’t happen. Who knows if flooding music right after that album would’ve done anything more to make him bigger , I doubt it, just seems like it wasn’t in the cards. These woe is TDE threads are fukking repetitive and pretty pointless now

:dahell:

nah not at all even remotely

mac wasn't the glue of the west... respect to dude but you forcing a legacy that didn't exist
No one is calling him a glue moron. I’m saying the scene changed a lot when he died. And weather it’s coincidence or not, artists like Schoolboy Q, Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, haven’t put out much since his death. Macs studio was a central hub for a lot of these artists to go to to create. His death depressed the shyt out of a lot of people.

In my eyes he’s right there with Kendrick if not better. People just like Kendrick more. It happens so I’m not surprised. I think we’ve gotten the best we are going to get from Schoolboy Q. He was definitely on a roll for real and then people hated crash talk apparently

I disagree rapping wise Kendrick is better period. Only one close if not better is Soul but he isn't as popular. If you go back and listen to section 80 or OD, Kendrick is clearly a better rapper than Q but Q still got a lot of talent.

These guys are getting old. Hip hop is a young man’s game and you only survive by latching on to what’s hot to keep yourself warm.

Again we are not saying we expect him to be a mega star or on Kendrick level but had he had been able to release more or had a better work ethic, whatever it is. He probably could have had more of a presence in the game and had a better career.

Even his social media pages going quiet make me wonder what happened but like others said maybe he not really feeling the game and is chilling with family.

I definitely agree that Kendrick is a better rapper but what I’m saying is Q dropped a lot of music that should’ve made him a household name just like Kendrick. I think they were the two rappers holding the label down these past few years. Yeah others dropped, but Kendrick and Q were giving you bangers! I like Soul but he’s where you’d expect him to be, same as Isaiah, I don’t know many of the other guys like Sir and them. It’s just crazy how hiphop is now.. people be dropping whole careers worth of work then get the questions like “What can Schoolboy Q do to get to the next level?” I mean you can only do so much out here.

You know I get that but, I'm not completely buying that, these dudes grown men with careers, that would say alot about them to be that pressed over a white drug addict dying to the point it kills a lot of their drive. Not dissing mac but that's just who he was and I get he was their best friend but, they've pushed through much worse situations.

this is super false

literally there are TONS of rappers over the age of 35 making moves with a solid fanbase right now.
this "young mans game" notion has been debunked so many times.
sure there are lots of young people in hiphop/rap but to act like age has any major factor on somebody's longterm appeal/marketability is exaggerated.

You have to remember Mac was a growing producer as well, so people are going to him for beats and not just rapping. Macs death meant one less creative space these artists could go to to really get down. He was growing as a mentor big time . Shyt depressed a lot of people when he died.

Setbacks - Habits & Contradictions - Oxymoron - Blank Face

Was a hell of a run, Q was one of my favourite rappers during these years, he still is now, tho Dropping a trash ass sellout album like Crash Talk while shytting on his fans for only liking “depressing shyt like Blank Face” had me looking at him a lil different, that album being a brick commercially and critically was deserved

The business of hip hop is driven by the youth. They dictate what’s hot and what’s profitable. It’s always been that way.

Sure, you can make a living being an independent artist selling merch and concert tickets to your core fan base. That’s different from being a priority artist on a major label and not being hot.
