It's not traditional soul, even though they do have songs in that realm, but they all put a modern twist on their soul music.

There's a lot more, but I don't want to keep posting... Some of it isn't directly soul, but it's still more soulful than 90% of the popular musicians coming out the states (and more interesting)

singing became gay and playing an instrument just doesnt happen that much anymore...partly schools to blame and also young nikkas clowning cats for having a talent...also the sound of music has changed.

I personally believe the elements that make black music have been ostracized to push the European electro faq sound on urban artists because its easy to market to white people

I think a lot of new artists were thrown into the "neo soul" category, Maxwell and D' Angelo among a few others. D'Angelo will always be a fav of mine, haven't found much close to Brown Sugar and Voodoo along with his live work with the Soultronics.

Haha. Laura is dope. So is Emeli Sande. I just wanted to post more progressive stuff. And, no the US don't have it. All of our artist doing Soul are damn near 35+ (minus Miguel)

you would have to listen to it to know "what happened to it" and to do that you have to know where to find it, and after you listened to it you would know that absolutely NOTHING "happened" to it, it's still there, perfectly fine

Dudes still waiting on what yall mean by 'soul' music... cause while i like a lot of the songs posted in the thread, most of them sound like electronica...

are we really saying what happened to songs with decent singers on it that arent about cliche'ed rap&bullshyt topics?
