i would put the blame for lack of a good campaign on the players....the players are the ones that started ignoring the campaign, only caring about the mp aspect....once that happened, the industry took notice...no point in spending a lot of time, money, and effort on a good to great campaign, as long as they got the mp part right....if players start caring again, the industry will too....

like some have mentioned, there have been some good to great campaigns for fps out there like bioshock, resistence, and portal to name a few...they just are in the minority of games though....

another thing to go with what i posted eariler:

it's not a surprise that there are more mp only games starting to come out....they've come out before, but not as often as they're coming now....wouldnt surprise me if that starts to be the norm: devs offering the mp mode as a standalone game...

I remember when you changed the difficulty in a FPS game and it gave you not just bullet sponge enemies that took extra life off you but gave you extra mission objectives, different enemy placement.

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Timesplitters.:wow:
Timesplitters 2 was the shyt. That Siberia level :banderas:

Resistance series was really the only fps I got into the SP. I beat COD4 and have MW2/3 and BO, never even attempted their campaign. Got PS+ and started playing Borderlands 2. Wow, got hooked on that real quick. I'm hoping No Mans Sky is something like that.

it might sound like crazy hyperbole, but Wolfenstein TNO reminded me a lot of Half Life 2. I guess the story is kind of similar, since you're part of a small resistance fighting against this huge 'machine'. the shooting mechanics were also very good, similar to Max Payne 3. great level design, with options for different play-styles (stealth, guns-blazing, etc), and spots to explore for 'secrets'

game is straight piff brehs, don't sleep

Gang violence...
now, the consumers actually reward them for putting most of their effort into multiplayer and simply throwing a bull shyt campaign in the mix. all the best campaign FPS games today are campaign centric games. the last MP-centric FPS that had a great campaign to me was bad company 2.

you have to give up on COD and BF ever giving you a good campaign again.
