This is the most recent picture of Jioni, one of two giraffes killed by lightning at Lion Country Safari.

"In an effort to maintain naturalistic habitats featuring wide-open spaces similar to the savannah, giraffe(s) are not normally confined to covered pastures or pens," the statement said. "Staff and animal safety are of the utmost importance and while this is a tragic and aberrant incident, the park is continually reviewing safety and crisis protocols."

Lion Country Safari is South Florida's only drive-through zoo.

There are now 18 remaining giraffes at the park.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A Panama City elementary school teacher was arrested Monday after police said she stabbed her husband multiple times.

Kristy Williams, 43, faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She appears smiling and wearing a T-shirt printed with the words, “Dear Parents, Tag … You’re It! Love, Teachers,” in her booking photo.

According to the arrest report, Williams attacked her husband inside their condo unit. The man ran from the home and called 911. He was stabbed multiple times in the back, right arm and chest, but his injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Local TV station News 13 reported that Williams, who works at Hutchison Beach Elementary School, had been suspended with pay while investigations continues in acco.

"We hold our educators to the highest of standards, professionally and personally, and so news of the arrest of an employee is very disheartening," Superintendent Bill Husfelt told the station.

Tampa family uses pet alligator to help with gender reveal

Johari Canty

TAMPA, FLA. (WSVN) - A Tampa family used a rather unusual method to reveal the gender of their unborn baby.

Stacie Childs-Wright and her husband Chad enlisted the help of their pet gator Amos to make the big gender reveal.

According to Fox 13, this will be the 10th child in their blended family.

Video shows the couple holding a balloon in front of Amos, who, after a few chomps, pops the balloon to reveal pink powder.

Chad works with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as a nuisance wildlife trapper.

Amos has been a part of the family since 2000.

City of Miami Police officer caught on camera accidentally Tasered during arrest

City of Miami Police officer Tasered during arrest in Miami

Sheldon Fox

MIAMI (WSVN) - A City of Miami Police officer was caught on cellphone video getting shocked by a Taser fired by his partner while taking a man into custody in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

The incident happened at the corner of Southwest 10th Avenue and Fourth Street in January.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Lazaro Perez, was one of two arrested for being part of a drug transaction.

In the cellphone video, the man on the ground could be seen struggling with two officers. An officer could be seen using his Taser on the man, but also accidentally zapping his partner with the department-issued stun gun.

The officer who was Tasered then could be seen falling to the ground and yelling in pain from the voltage of the stun gun.

However, the officer instantly recovered and returned to help with the apprehension.

Soon after, multiple police sirens could be heard blaring through the streets. The video then shows multiple officers flooding the chaotic scene.

In the end, Perez and Rigoberto Castillo were arrested on drug-related and multiple other charges.

Castillo remains behind bars at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade and was granted $6,000 bond.

A Miami homeowner was able to get a suspected car burglar to lie down on the ground with his hands behind his back Monday evening by holding his iPhone like a gun on the man until police arrived, according to a report.

“I immediately called 911, and while talking to the police, I came outside. I pointed the phone to him, and I said, ‘Lay down.’ I start screaming, ‘What are you doing there?’ And he tried to come towards me, and I said, ‘Stay there. Don’t come here,’” the homeowner said of the suspect, later identified as Sheldon Johnson, 27.

“The phone is black, so just pointing at him, it’s just like a weapon,” the homeowner, who did not want to be identified, told WSVN in Miami.

When Miami Beach Police arrived about six minutes later Johnson was on the ground with his hands behind his back, the report said.

The homeowner told WSVN the officers “said only one thing, ‘Good job.”’

Johnson faces charges of burglary, attempted grand theft auto and resisting arrest.

Florida man arrested for beating up Uber driver with antenna and bystander’s cane

POSTED 3:38 PM, JUNE 14, 2019, BY TRIBUNE MEDIA WIRE

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A St. Petersburg man was arrested Thursday after police reports say he beat up an Uber driver with a water bottle, a car antenna and a cane belonging to an elderly bystander, according to WFTS. :mjlol:

St. Pete Police say on June 6, the Uber driver attempted to terminate the ride, making 26-year-old Denzel Johnson angry.

According to reports, Johnson hit the victim with a water bottle, then got out of the car and broke off the antenna. He used the antenna to strike the victim in his left shoulder.

Johnson then took a cane from an elderly bystander and hit the Uber driver in the right shoulder.

The Uber driver ended up with deep bruises and lacerations. He was able to pick Johnson out of a photo pack a few days later with the help of St. Petersburg Police. Johnson was arrested Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. He has already bonded out of jail.

Johnson, who lives in St. Pete, now faces criminal mischief and aggravated battery charges.

FINESSED himself!!!

South Florida man says he was deceived when he bought tiny strip of land

TAMARAC, Fla. - A South Florida man thought he snagged a deal when he paid $9,100 in an online auction for what he thought was a villa. What he got was a 1-foot-by-100-foot strip of land.

The land, valued at only $50, starts on a curb and goes under a wall separating two villas in the Spring Lake community and then out to the back of the lot.

  • An official tells the South Florida Sun Sentinel there's not a lot Kerville Holness can do about his purchase.

Holness says he was deceived. He says property appraiser photos linked to the auction site shows a villa being on the parcel he made a bid on.

But the newspaper says the appraiser's site and information on the county's tax site show no building value.

Florida man brought 4-year-old along on burglary outing

Associated Press

EDGEWATER, Fla. (AP) — Deputies have arrested a man accused of bringing a 4-year-old girl along as he broke into several properties in Florida.

News outlets report 38-year-old James Giambra was arrested Thursday. A concerned citizen in Volusia County called 911 to report someone carrying large bags around his neighbor’s property. The caller also said someone had messed with electrical wires on his boat in an apparent attempt to steal it.

Later, another caller reported a suspicious man was walking through yards with a young girl. A deputy was talking to a woman on her second-story deck when the two heard a male voice from below. The deputy found Giambra downstairs and took him in to custody.

Deputies didn’t reveal the relationship between Giambra and the 4-year-old, who was returned to family members.

It’s unclear if Giambra had an attorney who could comment.

Florida road once adopted by KKK is sponsored by gay pride group

Posted: 10:47 AM, June 17, 2019Updated: 11:10 AM, June 17, 2019

  • NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A stretch of road on Florida's Gulf Coast that was adopted by the Ku Klux Klan 25 years ago is now being sponsored by a gay rights group. Pasco Pride recently adopted the stretch of Moon Lake Road in New Port Richey.
WUSF in Tampa reports that the KKK adopted the 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) stretch of the road back in 1993. Pasco Pride President Nina Borders says she was unaware of the KKK's previous sponsorship.

As sponsors, Pasco Pride will clear trash from the stretch of road four times a year.

Border says the change in sponsorship reflects how much the community located northwest of Tampa has changed in a quarter century.

Webslinger gets day job! Spider-Man seen pressure cleaning Miramar roof

Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-5-33-34-PM.png

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Has the crime rate tanked so low that your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man needs a second job?

Our spidey senses point to yes after the webslinger was caught on video Monday pressure cleaning a Miramar roof in miserable weather.

Instagram user @skinnygeorge said he looked out the window to check out the weather and saw The Amazing Spider-Man, or a man dressed as the webhead, on the roof of the Calvary Fellowship Church next door.

Even crazier, the man... (cough) Spider-Man... wasn't tethered to anything while he was on top of the building.

As far as his work, pressure cleaning seems like it could be his real superpower.
