Picture if you will an alternate reality. A reality in which Jay-z didnt backstab dame in the back by being greedy and coerced by lyor cohen and rape the history of def jam. And instead jay would have been loyal nikka and gave it to the businessman that deserved to make good music and gave controlling interest to dame dash before or after lyor cohen left. Just imagine how different and maybe more powerful def jam would have been known.

Right now hiphop is soft. Def Jam used to be synonymous with Hiphop & R&b, now the music today is just trash, I can only stomach rhianna that big forehead bytch for so long before i turn my fukking radio off. I used to listen to rap in the 90's early 2000's when def jam had the radio on lockdown. back then when everyone had a spot to eat and there was a diversity of music. IMO jay-z's takeover of def jam music killed hip hop and where it was going. Let's picture an alternate reality that Jay didnt and Dame took control.

well look at it this way, dame has always said he wanted to do stuff away from hip hop or bigger than hiphop, just a month ago he said he feels hes not a "hip hop mogul" so def jam would still be in the messy state it is when or if dame gives it up to the likes of la reid and the other guy that now controls def jam.

this is so ironic considering now it's Jay who has had a shyt load of success & different ventures outside of just hip hop...

I think Dame woulda botched the whole shyt considering his tendency to OD with the power tripping and the talent he was working with at the time outside of Kanye. If he let Ye do Ye, then Kanye was gonna blow up anyway, but I cant see Dame at the controls at Def Jam and throwing $$ at Peedi, Michelle Branch, Beanie and Young Guns and expecting them to sell. He woulda underplayed Rihanna and forced NEYO to write songs for Nicole Wray and Rell. Rocafella had its successes largely on Jay's records but they had a ton of duds too, which get overshadowed because of Jay and Ye's run on the label.

At the same time, he woulda clashed with management because Island and Def Jam (at the time) were one unit and he didnt have any experience pushing non-Hip Hop/rap/R&B acts

Dude had his "chance" with DDMG and you know the suits at Def Jam were banking on him to fail but you dont launch a new label with an incarcerated Beanie Sigel. Dame rushed that label instead of falling back and letting the dust settle. He saw/sensed/smelled Jay making moves and tried to move at a similar pace

I love DAME's passion and he shed a lot of light with his "on camera" displays regarding distribution, major/indy relationships, branding and solidarity..

but real talk...if DAME would have had controlling intrest then DEF JAM would have lost it's DISTIBUTION DEAL with UNIVERSAL in two seconds flat and every other credible corporate relationship...

CORPORATE AMERICA likes CONFORMIST NEGROES...and DAME AIN'T ONE OF THEM :manny:

Anyone else feel bad for Dame? All of these bridges he burned were to benefit Roc-A-Fella...and look what happened.
