That particular beat wouldn't have worked for just anybody (Kanye included). On it's own, that beat isn't that captivating IMO. Jay made that song what it is. The vocal sample was also a nice touch.

let me preface this by saying jay is one of my all time goats. going to his show and everything

but if you try to imagine lu spitting the verses on lucifer you can clearly see lu either ghostwrote the whole song or had a heavy hand in it

Ill admit lu definately had a hand in that song.
.jay saying he never read the bible but saying the black album was devil's pie was like :lupe: jay clearly wrote the last verse about lob but just some parts like the murder capital is clearly about the chi but what was lupe doing at that time, wasnt lu still mixtape and unsigned music wise?

Wouldnt have made a difference. The beat is overrated. I think you guys just like hearing someone say Lucifer.

Its so demonic, friends.

Would've been classic with Kanye on it too...

The Jay joint is ill in no small beat due to the beat. It's not Jay carrying the production, it's a hot ass beat and hook that most emcees would be able to bless IMO.

Nah thats a beat ye could have snapped on no questions

I don't know, Kanye during that era probably would've brought it lyrically, but his flow/delivery wasn't up to scratch. Jay on the other gave the beat that work lyrically, flow and deliver wise.
