what exactly happened in that story and what was the aftermath of the train/rape? can you provide more information for those of us who haven't read the book, so we can decide if it really was gang rape?

The gang rape part of the book was in a chapter of the book out of I think twenty chapters. Here is one instance where he did not comply in raping the the girl. He went over somewhere with his crush Denise. I think he was 14 or younger than that. Anyways they were talking and then a group of older guys jumped out of nowhere and ran an unwilling train on her. He had nothing to do with that. Now on another instance there was a different girl when he was in his younger teens. A guy bought her over to his house. She thought that it was in private and they had something going on. Anyways there was a group of guys hiding in the closet and when they got to the house the guys came out. I remember the narrator stating that sometimes the girls were too scared to speak up out of fear of being hurt. I also remember the narrator stating that even when the girls who were raped went and reported it to the police the witnesses would say that she was a straight up slut so the case would be dismissed. There was another chick named Shirley and she was just loose - mostly due to her complete insecurities. She would turn out the younger guys in the neighborhood. I remember him stating that by the time he was 14/15 a lot of the guys had lost their virginity to Shirley. So there was a clear difference in the book about rape and consenting sex. Certain instances where rape and certain instances were consenting sex.
At one point in the book there was girl who thought she was pregnant with his child. He took her onto the express way acting as if he wanted to talk. Instead he had planned to take her somewhere so that a group of guys could run a train on her so that she would be confused about who the father is.

He made a book after Makes me Want to Holler called Whats Going on. He admitted to raping some women during his teens years, and stated that if he was charged with it he would have spent a very long time in prison. He stated that one of the guys he used to run with got Karma. He stated that they were naming girls that they forced to have sex with them and one of the guys named his friends sister. He admitted to forcing himself on some women, and having consenting sex with women who wanted to sleep with him. Do I think that he changed for the better? Yes, but the things he did was just wrong.

It's the schizo mind frame of a woman. Peridot is trying to come at it from a perspective of "rationally" thinking about it from the POV of being a "sexually liberated" woman, someone how inferring insecurity in the men that choose not to be with a woman that engaged in acts of this nature. Essentially its the over used trope of if men can do it, why cant a woman explore her sexual fantasies and be accepted just like a man.
