The (black) conservative premise(feeling about how the world works) is that man's base nature is imperfect and limited in its ability to change. In other words, man is inherently egoistical, lustful and greedy. This leads us to a problem on how do we limit our unlimited desires(we are selfish and greedy after all) and the pain we cause to our fellow man due to those desires, while at the same time advancing the human race forward?
The conservative solution is social process(religion, moral traditions, societal norms, free markets, checks and balances, gov't that punish us, etc). Humans will only tolerate constraints on their desires when there are other powers preventing us from doing so. But the critical thing to note is that these social process grew out of experience, wisdom of the ages, and hard lessons learned by people throughout history.
In turn, conservatives value experience of tradition, gradual change, and time tested process over personal intellect, but at the same time, they recognize that catch-all solutions that will make everyone happy simply don't exist, all we can ever do as humans is make the best trade-offs that we can. Its a tragic vision.
