Just because it isn't what it once was doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

It may not be what YOU personally want it to be but it does exist.

People say shyt like this all the time but then in the same sentence say "i hate our culture today it isn't what it used to be" so what is it? You hate it or it doesn't exist anymore?

You have to understand that people steal from us and never give us credit a lot of things started with us and we don't even know it.

Only on The Coli can you be dressed like an Asian hypebeast and seriously ask the question "What happened to black culture?" and expect people to outline answers for you that you are too lazy to research.

:snoop: And y'all seriously want people to believe you grow up around black people and are not white washed. :beli:

Okay, do me this..next black kids/adults on the street you see, ask them what african american culture is to them...and ask for 3 prime examples.

Homie I don't got to ask nobody nothing. The food I eat, the haircuts I get, the way I talk is all apart of african american culture.

So it's still here,is it safe to say that it's on life support though?
The richness of it is subjective according to your experience of it.

I went to New York last year and met amazing young black writers, musicians and artists that were really pushing the envelope and breaking new ground.

Is that likely to reflect the cultural experience of most African Americans? No, but remember, the Harlem renaissance only really happened in Harlem. Most others remained untouched in the short term.

Also, when evaluating a culture you tend not to refer to the lowest common denominator in your appraisal of it. Most of what we use to characterise cultures are in the domains of the arts, the spiritual and the esoteric.

What you're probably asking is whether or not the cultural experience of your Average American has regressed.

Which is a very complex question, the answer to which probably sounds something like yes.

The fukk are you talking about?

We might not have any greats now but the people mentioned are part of....african american culture. I can't think of any great black jazz musicians right now but is it black american culture...yes.

SMH. So because "music has no real meaning" its ceases to be black culture. Music will always be a key component in black culture period.

Your a confused young nikka b.
If our music has no meaning that means a segment of our culture has no meaning/value.Our music "culture" is controlled by guys like Jimmy Iovine and corporations like Viacom.I'm sorry if I don't give that much value to rap music being a major part of our current culture. Are we still going to claim Rock music as apart of our current culture?

The food we ate where leftovers the masters didnt want..

Light vs Dark, Strong vs Weak

Elimination of our gods and belief systems to be replaced with english belief systems..

What do you mean by "most of the others remained untouched" regarding the Harlem Renaissance? The other areas of Black America?

African American culture is a double entendre fused with an oxymoron. It's literally an anti-culture.

In effect yes. The effects of it were only really felt a good 30-40 years later.

I think that could be attributed to the isolated nature of America at that time.Back then mass media was in it's infancy. There wasn't really a way for a black man/woman in Evergreen,Alabama to know about anything happening in Harlem. Also,I doubt black literature and music was easily accessible back then due to the highly racial nature of America during the 20's and 30's.

If we had a Harlem Renaissance type movement today we'd know about it almost immediately,we'd have access to it immediately. We're talking about two very different times in history. We just don't have the talent or drive to create that movement today.
