religon is the worst invention ever. media jedi mind tricks will never come anywhere near the atrocities that went/go down in the name of religion.for every one person religion "saves" three people have died in its name

religion has been holding mankind back since its invention. How many forward thinkers got called heretics and burned/hung/murdered in the dark ages. religous people fight stem cell research nowadays. we talking research that can fix multiple health problems and birth defects and religious nuts are against it. Its easy to say "god made that kid deaf, dumb, and blind for a reason" when its not your kid.

^^^ this.
And to add to that, I am christian, I do believe in god. I don't however buy into all of the structure and fanaticism that goes along with it. I realize that most of the worlds conflicts were sparked in name of God. The media can not wield that kind of power, the power to create suicide bombers or the type of people that will claim jihad or cause a koresh or jim jones situation. if you think about how much(good or bad) was claimed in the name of god, it shouldn't even be close in terms of which entity is more powerful.

Religion spawned need for the media and thus, the creation. And now the media has overtaken so much that some people follow it like a religion.

The things that do go unchecked go so because of the media.

Laws are being passed daily that affect our rights and privacies as citizens, but it goes uncontested because the media turns the blind eye. Yet they can cherry pick some minor (in comparison) issue and blow it up to a magnitude of epidemic proportions.

Not to mention the righteous image they feed us of US military campaigns, and most the country eats it up like we're the superman villian-fighter of the world.

Yet have a real talk with anybody from any 2nd/3rd world country, or anybody who was in the military and they will tell you of the violent massacres, resource pillaging, coup fueling, sneaky underhanded back alley stickup type acts the US does overseas.

...and this is merely the tip of perceptions created by the media that stand strongly in society today.

I love when people bump threads I forgot about.

I'd actually like to revise my answer in response to this. I now think choosing one or the other would actually be unfair to both of their heights of wickedness. Seeing as how they can both me used in malicious ways, controlling people who look to things or people they feel they can trust. Faith in news, faith in a certain reporter's integrity, faith in their pastor, faith in the teachings of their chosen religion.

Both have hindered quite a bit of progress. And both have been used and twisted to the point where they could end up hurting one individual to many more. So both in their own right are quite powerful.

Same goes with everything in life. It's a machete sharpened on both sides.

Boundless faith in a concept can mean the height of glory it promises. But let that concept be one of deception and watch it manipulate you to the depths of hell

The discourse of life:ehh:
