What is Natural Scorer and Scoring Mentality?

I think of it as:

Natural scorer = God given talent who easily developed offensive skills needed to score. Footwork, IQ/feel, and touch all came natural to him.

Scoring mentality = Player who looks to score first. Sort of tunnel vision but some like to call it being aggressive too. Labeled as selfish or a ball hogger if inefficient.

Combine both and that's what you call a lethal scorer or an assassin.

i think a natural scorer is someone that just gets buckets. not depending on the refs or needing your points assisted. You also dont depend on athleticism. blake depends on cp3 and athleticism to get some of his points. Lebron depends on athleticism. melo is the perfect example. dude can get 50 without any of those. same with durant.

looks like people are confused with having a "scoring mentality" and being a "natural scorer".


natural scorers can score with easy in a multitude of ways and make it look easy regardless of what the defense is doing.

a scoring mentality is aggressively attacking the defense to put up point as that's what you think your view is on the offense.


players that have a scoring mentality aren't always natural scorers(kemba) and natural scorers always don't have a scoring mentality(lebron).

The fact that he's not as athletic as Bron (most humans aren't) doesn't mean Melo isn't athletic and dependent on said athleticism. nikkas tried to push that "Kobe does it all with skill" shyt for years and now that his athleticism is all but gone and the skills are still there we are seeing the reality. nikkas don't retire or fall off because they run out of skill.



"Natural scorer" is nothing more than another means of trying to hype or distinguish a guy when his production doesn't do so. No different than "pure" this or that.
