What is our "culture"

FIRST OFF:

There are levels to this culture thing. For instance, we have
american culture: which deals with independence, chasing finances, equality, religious freedom, free speech, conspicuous consumption, eating heavy foods, etc...
black american culture: which deals with strong religious influence, focus on music, focus on appearances, disregard for the man/law, etc etc
corporate culture: which deals with the way you interact at work, for that particular company
hip hop culture: whatever that is...

In NO way can we compare hip hop culture to say jewish culture... because they are two totally different scopes of culture, one is a musical subculture dating 40 years, the other is a ethnic religious culture dating maybe 4000 years.

Want to clear that up first and foremost because this thread seems to be derailed discussing elements which cannot meaningfully be compared.

Now discussing the culture of hip hop (maybe should be called subculture to be clear)

I would stand by the statement that Hip Hop culture is no more widespread in 2013 than it was in 1994. Fundamentally this is because the vast majority of the expansion of Hip Hop/Rap as a music/industry hasn't really reflected or had anything to do with the culture for the past 15 years at least. This isn't meant to 'judge' real Hip Hop vs rap or anything of that sort from an aesthetic standpoint, nor to contrast underground vs mainstream, or the streets vs the industry. It is just that the culture associated with Hip Hop up to say 1994 is totally different in all aspects from the culture associated with the music after that point.

Undeniable core principals of Hip Hop - 1973 - 1993
1) Uniqueness - No Biting Allowed
2) Freedom Of Expression
3) Competition
4) Voice of the Disenfranchised Urban Youth
5) Counter Mainstream - No Sell Out
6) Judged By its own Standards

That ain't all the culture, just a slice, but those were core ideals that were universally and undeniably part of the core of hip hop culture. Not even trying to judge these as 'good' qualities, just saying these were important to the culture. Now a days probably only 1 or 2 still hold in any meaningful way for Hip Hop 2013 in general.

Most modern Hip Hop music fans, are not really Hip Hop fans.

Judaism, since you used this as an example, is much much more than just a "culture" though. Of course it is a culture too, but beyond that it is a religion, it's an indoctrinated blueprint of morality handed down by "g*d". people say hip hop is a culture, or homosexuality is a culture, etc... but these things are not religions so you can't view them in the same light that you view a faith-based belief system. all of those traditions you speak of were birthed from the religious aspect of that "culture", btw.

hip hop is definitely some sort of culture, IMO. by definition, culture is "a way of life", and we all know people who live and breathe this hip hop thing, it influences how they walk, talk, dress, etc... but its not an "official" culture, it's not a programmatic doctrine that is handed down to posterity to carry on, lol, nigs don't teach they babies about Rakim and G.Rap like they are omnipotent beings or somethin, ha.

Nah not rlly...but people talk of hip hop "culture" in such a high regard and such a sacredness oen should expect ordinances and traditions unique to the "culture"

Culture is a way in which people are programmed for greater society and depending on the dominant culture in place you may be inculcated with certain customs or manners not deemed fit for the general public. So with culture there are different ways to express it, music, art, dance, written word and with Hip Hop it's pretty much all of those same elements. The elements of hip Hop is emcee, dj, breakdancing, and graffiti if I remember correctly. So those were just interpretations of culture from the streets of NYC in the late 70s/early 80s that spread and evolved. So to begin with Hip Hop began as a culture.

Beyond those times tho, Hip Hop culture became a platform for people to speak on how fukked up their community has become, what it's made them as a result, and the people in his life affected by these circumstances, the culture through the music gave young black people a chance to not only speak on what was going on(or whatever they wanted, cuz not everybody was on some gangsta or conscious shyt) burt also a chance to get rich. So Hip Hop has projected itself as a culture on more than one occasion, more recently Hip Hop has become a growing trendsetter in mainstream America to where it is today. However, Hip Hop began outside the box so if it's fully mainstream then is Hip Hop, Hip Hop?

whatever b*stardized response we have to their rejection of us, that has became our culture. shying away from whatever they've deem inappropriate has become our culture. even though they use it against us and jew double bluff blacks into rejecting normal behavior wholesale
