Klay Thompson is a career PER of 16.5
Draymond Green has a career PER of 15.7
Paul George has a PER of 16.5 this year and is a career 18.3, he's never broken a PER of 21
Khris Middleton is a career PER of 15.2

Remember that average is 15, apparently these are all ~average guys according to PER

The biggest problem with PER is shown when you see the stark contrasts though in how they pan out in one stat versus another.
why are you looking at career PERs?...for players who had slow starts to their careers. are you a dumbass?

I listed PG's current and career, Draymond's at 16.6 this year, Klay's at 17.6 this year, really not much of a difference to be seen. Remove PG's rookie season and his career PER only goes up by .7, Middleton's PER only goes up by .3 factoring out his rookie year, Klay didn't have a slow start to his career.

If you believe in PER, you're the dumbass here :francis: it's been abandoned by the analytics community for true analysis for a reason

PER? Real plus/minus? Value over replacement (VOR)? Win shares? :jbhmm: Triple Doubles?:troll: Quadruple doubles?:gladbron: Something else?

Wanna get a thread going where we can discuss all the pros/cons of the various metrics so we may come to more of an agreement which stats to pay attention to and which stats not so much instead of people just using a specific stat whenever it suits their agenda (which we all know is an important concern on the Coli as well as in the media :skip: ).

Now obviously stats can never answer the whole question and the eye test still is still a must, but which (advanced) stats do you feel are worth paying attention to the most (other than wins, (Final) MVPs and rings :comeon: ).

Don't just vote but share your thoughts on why you think one is better than the others. I'll start off by sharing this article from last year on some of the flaws of PER:

The Definitive PER Criticism

Discuss brehs.:hamster:
Damn that summed up a lot of my problems with a lot of these stats, especially PER. The weights that are assigned to different stats make no sense other than someone tinkering with it until the list spit out the results of who the creators already thought were the best players in the league. I wish someone invented a formula breaking down efficiency while eliminating certain plays. I would like to see end of quarter heaves, end of shot clock contested shots, end of game shots under a certain time and shots of that nature removed from the equation when considering efficiency.

NBA in general is the hardest league to paint a picture with stats. For instance it's hard to know if someone is ball hogging due to shytty teammates or just flat out ball hogging. LIke the article stated with John Wall creating a lot of assist opportunities, sometimes a player is moving the ball and teammates not converting. Then there's the whole thing of player gravity which is finally getting tracked. Then there's the opposite of playing with a Roberson type who nobody comes close to guarding clogging the lane for everybody else and hurting their efficiency.

Only stats I really trust at this point are +/- for five man units.

I really like the CARMELO system the 538 people came up it compares players based of their salaries, what tier of star they are, how long there prime can and will be, and also historical comparisons

All of these have varying degrees of instability built into them but for my money I’m going with RPM ....it at least tries to factor in defense unlike PER although it does overrate limited minute bigs
