I just want something that looks good and runs well. Right now the 2014 Chevy Impala 1LT is at the top of my list. Is there anything out there that's cheaper with the same kind of look and performance?

Erg....

Ok, umm... I'm gonna assume this will be your first car buying experience. A couple things you want to know.

First, you never want to determine which car you buy based on the monthly payment; always go by the sale price of the car. The reason I say this is because the monthly payment is made up of 3 factors (loan amount, rate, loan term) and you can move any of those factors in an extreme direction in order to get a payment you want. It won't be a payment that's advantageous for you, more often than not.

So what I'm saying is, forget the monthly payment, what's your max budget?

Well, you're sort of right. I've always bought cars from people I know. Right now I have a *cough* 2003 mazda 6 *cough* So I know about the loan factors, I've just never had to go through the process.

$30,000-$35,000, I've saved $5,000 for a down payment if that helps.

I don't know if you'll be able to finance a $30-35K car that cheaply unless you are getting something like 2% APR or getting one of those long loans like 6-7 years.

You should run a payment calc.

:sadcam: I can't believe I'm so ignorant on this process, they got 60/mo caps and shyt. @BlvdBrawler make that $26,000-$29,000.

*edit* forgot to add the 5k down + my Mazda is worth about $2500 so 30-35 is in my range.

I gotta get my weight up.:snoop:

It would benefit you if you tried to sell the Mazda6 on your own and take that amount and your $5,000 when negotiating the final price. Trade-ins can always be used by dealerships to hide profit margins. Oh, we will take your trade-in for $5000, that's $1000 over blue book. Don't you feel good? Well, what they don't do is go lower on the price. So if you have a $35,000 sticker price, they will take off $5,000 off that, not the invoice price. Invoice price is what you really want to get close to. If you have more cash down, then you can bargain down from that.Trade-ins are almost like giving your car away for free.

Could probably find a dope Kia Optima, a Passat, or even a VW CC in that range.
