When I first went to college I tried to bleach my skin using Clorox because everyone was white and i wanted to fit in and bag white bishes

When my hair was a little longer, I used to blow dry/perm it to make it straight like the white man's

I also started wearing American Eagle/Abercrombie when everyone else was wearing Roc-A-Wear

The closest thing I've done to be considered self hating is put a S-Curl on my shyt in middle school. But every nikka has done that and my shyt was fly as fukk...

I remember when i first put a s curl in my hair, everyone kept saying i was a uncle tom.

I didn't know what an uncle tom was at the time,the only reason i put it in my hair is because i wanted to look like Eazy e .

Myself, calling it "mayo" (with the suburban accent) after coming home from a summer camp in Vermont (nothing but cacs).

I regained my blackness shortly thereafter after getting ribbed by my boys.

I guess the thing that is so weird about this thread is when I was in Middle School and High School. All the white boys wanted to wear Js, listen to rap and dress like the black kids.

And all of the cool white chicks wanted to date black guys. So there was never any need to try to be like the white dudes...

Now at times I would dress "preppy" rocking Polos with Khakis and shyt like that just because I wanted to be versatile with both Urban shyt and Preppy shyt. But what you describe is something deeper. I don't get the self hating part. I love being black.

I rock polo and dikkies on a regular basis. note: I said dikkies, not dockers. I have to keep a hint of blue collar in there.

Most I've done was relax my hair in middle school so I could have the best waves on campus. AND I did. I knew not to leave it in too long, just 3-4 min, then got that wave wax, brushed it for an hour, slapped a dorag on went to sleep. next morning at the bus stop nikkas were like how you get it so wavey, I can surf on a nikka.

The worst I've seen...my aunt was using cake soap. I saw her one day and she was 3 shades lighter. wonder whatever happened to her, my uncle divorced her a few years back.
