Or maybe posters like you and the OP are just logically-handicapped morons who cowardly hide behind this canard of people trying to stifle your opinions, when really your arguments just melt under factual scrutiny like ants under a magnifying class.
Everybody who makes shytty arguments chock-full of gaping logical craters and a tenuous grasp of facts whines about how the garbage they spew is being stifled, dismissed, or somehow not respected, whether it's in news media, academia, or a message board subforum. But nobody is being stifled, you're free to say what you want, and arguments do not deserve respect by their mere existence; they are judged on their merits by observers. If you don't like the judgment your arguments get, suck it up and stop whining like a bytch or
Pretty much every semi-tenable argument on the usual topics has been addressed and put through the scrutinizing wringer multiple times, so this victim role you and some others try to play with this accusation of stifling an intellectual environment is quite disingenuous. Some people don't feel like going through the same motions over and over and over again, so they might just give a flippant or sarcastic remark and k.i.m. For instance, somebody asks how homosexuality is different from bestiality, incest, or pedophilia like every week.
And some arguments are absurdly ridiculous, many believe they don't warrant a response. I mean you once made a thread asking why isn't it okay for strangers to touch babies. Do you really expect people to be like, "Well sir, I don't think it's ethical to touch random babies because..."? On a hip-hop, sports, and comedy message board?
. when i came through to enlighten muthafuccas with that in yo face style, it shook up these devils and they're in panic mode right now.Im not sure if you were respony because you quoted someone else, but you referenced some of the language I used..I didn't claim to be a victim, nor do I personally feel particularly stifled in this environment in most cases..but I can see how some could feel that way. I agree that some topics/arguments posted, are fairly ridiculous but that is subjective. As long as they are backed by enough tangible evidence to be debated intellectually then the thread has credence. Just like in other parts of the website, if a particular topic continues to come up, people should just let the thread die or merge it into a giant thread on the topic (if it is popular enough). Sometimes, a topic will be rehashed, and the same people will be going back and forth throwing dirt on each other, and I think it discourages some others from getting substantively involved.
Some threads just should be deleted if they are wildly extreme and not backed by any significant evidence or philosophical arguments. Threads with shock titles and one or two sentence OP's shouldn't really have a place here TBH. I do think there should be room for minority opinions and we should have a flourishing intellectual community, where people can, perhaps, come to a higher learning, but, in addressing your point, threads like your second example, specifically, should be thrown to the bushes. I do think it's off-base to bring up that it is a hip-hop/sports/comedy message board, because although the vast majority of members here do have a significant interest in at least one of those areas, there is a reason why Higher Learning is here. It's to have (fairly) scholarly debates on legitimate topics/news of the day. While not every post has to be a miniature research paper that could be peer reviewed and put in an academic database, people should either take the time to offer a legitimate response or two, or put in the effort to have a reasonable back and forth of lesser length..or, instead, just simply ignore the topic. Personal insults and trolling might not discourage the brave hearted or the regulars from going at it, but it could be affecting potential new members, or some users from participating in certain threads because they know where it's going.
We recently had a fairly good back and forth on the Libertarian/Asteroid topic, and I thought that was an original, and thought provoking thread. I believe we, possibly, opened up each other's comprehension of different aspects of the topic and others dabbled in the thread as well. We need more of that. We, for the most part, kept the subject at hand in the spotlight, and I think that needs to happen more often, that's all.

sorry that I have seemed to stifle your learning and development. I view this as an especially heinous series of acts on my part given your overall developmental retardation and probable positive results on the autism spectrum.

The same goes for you too. Lol autism. You have some nerve. See me in 5 years.![]()
you make lots of posts questioning social norms, advocate for shut ins, seem confused as to why people can't touch babies etc.... All of this sounds a lot like a clear set of indicators of the lack of social skills people on the autism spectrum usually struggle with. Seriously, get tested before the DSM-V comes out. Some serious Asperger's, breh.sorry that I have seemed to stifle your learning and development.
