Off-topic but Voltaire never said that.
It's from Evelyn Beatrice Hall who wrote a biography of him ('The friends of Voltaire") and wrongly attributed him that quote and its even Hall's own quote she wrote to sum up Voltaire's philosophy.
She once wrote a letter to somebody in which she stated that it was "her own expression and [that it] should not have been put in inverted commas", apologizing for it.
Even here in France, most of the people think Voltaire said that.

But I agree with the logic of the quote.
So if you like that quote so much, change your name to E.B. Hall :jawalrus:
:ehh:

It's always been like this though, say whatever you want about black women, arabs, muslims, asians/indians and it's all fair game. Make a couple of Jews uncomfortable and threads are straight up locked :russ: .
:ufdup:
Not too long ago I was straight up banned from a thread, I couldn't respond, and I couldn't even VIEW the discussion. When I asked a mod about it he said it was because two well-known members here (I wont name names) requested it :comeon: the fukk kind of shyt is that?

As for the posters mentioned, I'm one of the main people that was arguing with those "trouble-makers" in the Hidden Colors thread, but I don't want to see @iLLaV3 or anybody else that was in there banned. Wanting members banned because you don't like what they have to say is corny.
:skip:

most of the people who speak on those types of issues aren't the p*ssyfied posters, don't have to worry about them bytching

so basically, as usual, what I said is true.

and not every observation is a diss. and u were previously mentioned.
Saying I started some "gay ass shyt," inarticulate as it is, is a bit of a diss. It's cool though. I know you can't help yourself.

This is the same poster who crying in the thread when Brown Pride or one of the other mods for H.L. issued out warning for people who troll. Also I can expose you now in basically 95% of my threads. You Also the same guy who makes threads on H.L. attacking individual posters.
You like them and you are bytching on here. If you don't like the thread or subject stay your ass out.
:russ: This doesn't even apply to anything I said.

the counter-productive posting is the shyt that needs to be policed better. dont like a certain thread? here's a novel idea, DONT POST IN IT.

i never understood posting in a thread just to say some disrespectful and/or counterproductive shyt. seems like a waste of energy AND it derails the thread.

also, we need to get some new blood and some fresh perspectives in these threads. but imo the way some posters are attacked for their viewpoints is one of the main reasons more newbies dont post :yeshrug:

This is a thread on the issues with this particular forum and you idiots still somehow sneak anti-Semitic barbs and wonder why we think you lack intellect or the need to be taken serious?

who said something anti Semitic exept for kritic?? That's what he does and it's not really a big deal. It's not like anti-Anything = lack of intellect.

Anyway... u should pay closer attention to things if ur gonna comment.. the pro-zionist defense stance is one of the main reasons (I'm assuming, could be off tho) was created.

I got bored. I was going to change it to Voltaire to match the quote in my sig but I couldn't get with having that dude in my avi. That and because I'm going to be spending less time around outside of just modding and I figured that if people couldn't @ me they'd resort to @ BP but that hasn't worked :russ:
fuker lol.

Well the main problem is any idea other than one's own gets bashed. Just plain backwards.

Also, anyone questioning norms gets labeled as an offender of such norms. Just plain ignorant.

These two deadly concoctions = Stifled hiring learning environment overall.

Frequent violators:

@VictorVonDoom
@Broletariat
@88m3
@Brown_Pride
And that one user with Huey Newton ava, forgot his name.

People like

@Hollywood Hogan
@Blackking
@Hiphoplives4eva

May disagree with you, which is fine and dandy but what that person does, is tell you WHY they believe you're wrong. They don't attack the person, they attack the argument. Plus, they bring in sources to back their argument.

There have been so many times people attack me and they don't even try to touch the argument I put forth. :smh:

It really tells of their character and mental capabilities. :what:

what I find extremely funny is i haven't deleted, locked or moved a thread in a little over a month :heh: so not sure were the "BP is out to stifle free speech" is coming from. I've warned people because other people have reported there comments but that's it. i'm goign to say 99% of the time my mentality is i'll let the natural course of the forum filter out the bad shyt. SOmetimes i'll come into a thread to help poke holes in outlandish shyt but the thread remains open. The only people we've ever really banned were out and out racist and even then we warned them on several occasions to place a little more tact into how they delivered there opinion.

Personally AND from a mod point I really could care less what opinion you have just be ready to back your opinion if I disagree with you. FFS if I banned and locked every thread and poster based on how absurd i thought there opinion was there'd only be a hand full of posters and threads.

In conclusion stop with the crying.

Let me explain why you'll always have people posting shyt in threads they find silly.

Let's say I make a thread titled: BP is the smartest poster in HL.

Now, if I take your stance, anyone NOT coming in to pay homage to my intellect should stay the fuk out because it's counter productive.

See why that doesn't work?

When people go into a thread and "shyt on it" then chances are the idea in the thread isn't strong enough to stand on it's own in terms of logic, facts and proof. So again, when you pop something on a "higher learning" forum you should expect some challenge to your idea, if your idea is sound you stand to reach and teach, if you're spouting nonsense...well unfortunately for you most people in here are of sufficient intelligence to call bull shyt.

:manny: HL is a peer reviewed science journal :smile:

On topic, I disagree with the thread.
I'm sorry but when there are posters who willingly create misguiding, wrongful, hateful or simply troll threads, said threads should be deleted. Freedom of speech my ass. The quality of a forum is equal to the quality of the threads made. If we let all type of threads live, HL (as in Higher Learning) will be a joke.

HL tends to the left/liberal, it's true
And I agree that people who doesn't think like that should have every rights to express different opinions. It's not even debatable. Because it's absolutely fine if we can discuss, debate and have confrontational views if everything is done with courtesy like the gentlemen we should be in here.
But we gotta stop passing opinions as facts, thoughts as truths and maybe HL's quality level will rise.

This sub-forum should have multiple rules which we should follow in order to maintain a certain credibility standard.
- Quoting sources
- Backing up claims (studies, interviews, videos) when they are not opinions
- Stating when opinions/thoughts are so.
- No cursing, no smileys, no SMS writing etc.

I'm even all for conspiracy threads if they have sources. Because they are debatable that way.
If only you realized how many times this has failed. The thing about it, is that people will link to things but they won't full vet the idea. They will use the links merely as a conduit to confirm their assumptions. When you then point out the wholes in their argument, you're met with ad hominem attacks. Rinse and repeat. You have no idea how many people I've talked to over the past year plus about how to fix HL, and no one really knows how.

As for @GetInTheTruck I don't allow Islam-bashing threads, I've deleted more than you realize or warned more people than you realize. The thing is, people who diss Islam on here are just slick with it. They'll do something like post a legitimate article that just happens to involve Muslims and then :mjpls:. Also, you guys don't report them, as a matter of fact, I don't think you've ever reported anything. Anti-semitic posts are reported at a much higher rate. I don't even read those religion threads so I just address it when the report is filed if it should be.

From a relative outsider looking in, the issues are as followed:

Gimmick Posters
Religious Zealots
Conspiracy Theorist
Trolls who love to antagonized the above groups

Those of you who are more active in this section can probably give more details about the problems here than I can, but no matter what issue you raise, I have a feeling it will all tie back to one or more of the types of posters I listed.

There are those of us who can think meta and others who are oblivious :yeshrug:

Trolls antagonizing the latter cannot be blamed for their sense of humor :lolbron:
