What is the real issue on H.L.? ( A Discussion Thread)

fukking losers always looking for an excuse to ban people you disagree with.

Yeah, repeatedly basically saying 60 million minus 59 million equals negative 3 million is simply disagreement. Stfu. People get disciplined for making up shyt in the coliseum all the time. It'd be nice to see that here.

People who continue to repeat objectively fallacious claims are very easy to "snitch" on. At which they're generally told to chill and if not they are sometimes banned from the thread or their post is deleted. Again, people need to just use that more, like 2 or 3 people actually do. Most moderating isn't done in the light brehs....I don't exactly enjoy telling people what to do.

What is the real issue on H.L.?

A few random observations:

1 - A lack of objectivity.


2 - Conservative boards tend to be filled with(to be blunt) less intelligent people(thats a compliment), but they are more engaging and reasonable. Liberals are more likely to consider anyone who disagrees an idiot or troll, and ignore them or bash them. Conservatives invite desent liberals wonder why you are here, and want you to go away
Conservatives are more likely to take the "why do you think that", or "thats not true because ...." approach.
In debating issues though, fiscally liberals allow emotion to trump logic, while socially conservatives allow faith to trump logic.(these are not absolutes). Emotion and faith, both i have found are pointless to attack with logic since they are bound by the same rules, such as the need to make sense or be proven.

3 - Here on HL there is a special kind of ignorance I keep seeing that designates what a persons political affiliation, and economic outlooks should be based on the amount of melanin in your skin. Something that really takes the higher out of HL.
I've actually heard the phrase "you're not black' tossed out like an insult. If you cant see the ignorance in this, im praying for you.
That said the conservative forums are far more racist. Surprise right?

4 - I personally think the MODs do a good job, but i havent been here that long

5 - I have noticed a lot of people on HL rely on appeals to authority, rather than critical thinking, something less prevalent on conservative boards...
Though they tend to get their information from more wack job sources so, thats understandable.


6 - Some really good posters here. I'm not gonna stan any, but there are some really bright individuals on this board. If I wasnt occasionally getting sonned, I would of left a long time ago.

7 - liberals are becoming more extreme. We'll be looking at full on communism soon at this rate.

An unfair proportion of HL regulars are liberals, which might discourage posters with more conservative stances from posting in here I suppose.

does this really have to be explained. It's like sizing up who you're debating. Unless someone has an advanced degree in ethic studies or the likes, I doubt someone who isn't black can even begin to understand how certain actions and gestures are perceived. Thus the quantum leap in the train of thought of some narratives involving blacks...

I meant use the snitch button, I never give out the names of people who report people. Realistically most reports are frivolous claims anyway. We'd probably welcome legitimate ones.

I know. And like I said, people have done that in the past, and other mods have went around calling posters snitches in PMs to other posters and on the board and saying HL is full of snitches. Every mod can see when you use that option. Every mod isn't as professional as you.

Mods: It needs to be addressed.


When I first got here on the coli like many others it was because I was not satisfied( mainly tired) of Sohh and it's restrictions on what topics are discussed and who can do what in different forums based off certain cliques. Also because the trolls were ran-sacking all the threads with non-sense. Well it seems that the problems of sohh have followed here. In the HL, especially I've noticed good topics, debate threads being destroyed by trolls. The irrelevant threads like race-baiting, religious-baiting threads would be the norm and critical thinking seems to be outlawed. I find it ironic that republicans/democrats can speak on their topics, atheists can speak on their topics but those who don't fit that bubble who create critical thinking threads( alot of good posters too) have their views banned/threads deleted or pushed into other forums.

Personally it's not my business to enter a thread I'm not interested in and rate it because I don't like the poster. I don't think it's the mods job to delete critical thinking threads because the mod has a personal opinion about the subject. Right here shows the power-trips on the mods end to do something about the thread, even though the thread was put within the contents of the rules. Not every mod does that...just addressing the issue. This place has only been up a year and it's getting out of control.
