I admire what they're trying to do but the rollout for this shyt has been comically bad. All the worst aspects of modern media marketing rolled into one turd of an event.

It's simple really, people aren't gonna leave Spotify unless they have a reason. It's almost perfect for consumers as is.

These guys need to either:
Pull their shyt from Spotify,
Drop exclusives on tidal, or
Offer a better service for cheaper.

If they can't do any of these their service is gonna be an afterthought in about a month.

Lossless streaming is a nice feature for some people but it's nothing more than a small niche.

Imagine if Jay-Z, Cole,Bey, Rihanna, Ye etc. drop only on Tidal and Ye gets Paul McCartney to put Beatles music on Tidal:blessed::blessed::blessed:

same model as spotify w/ another tier. so, in other words if you get the $10 plan you get paid the same thing spotify, pandora, etc would pay you, but if your music is streamed through the hifi $20 plan you get double the already shytty wage. dunno about videos.

ehhh...

gorilla in the room is what apple is gonna do. everybody in the industry is curious/scared.
I'm interested in apple/beats also, the thing is, they're all abt being lifestyle brands, if jay strong arms his way into the competiton by aligning with big artists and having exclusive access to their music, I don't know what beats can do to one up that

The thing is these artists push albums regardless. If they use tidal to drop exclusives, plenty of folks will wait for the webrip or to buy it. I don't see them not selling their album all to push it thru a streaming services....but maybe they will.

But yea, them pulling their music and only offering it to tidal is definitely a move that would have to be made to get people to switch, but the other thing is people have built playlists on spotify, favorited tracks, they're following playlists or friends, created radio stations, basically built their libraries...there's so much that goes into these services aside from just pulling up an album and pressing play, even if this turned out to be more :takedat: than spotify, the thought of rebuilding my music yet another time is unappealing (the first being when I stopped using iTunes/desktop music software and loved to spotify)

why are people complaining about the price point? You get extremely high quality streams of pretty much any song you want for 65 cents a day....is that really a lot to ask? 2 quarters and 3 nickles.

But like others have said the quickest way for Tidal to make a major dent in the market is if all of those artist pull their albums off spotify and have them streamed on tidal. How did Tswift get out of her spotify contract and on to tidal?

damn spotify pays artist next to nothing...$1,900 for almost 500K streams

Just noticed Daft Punk. The overseas sales numbers :ohlawd:

All they need now is Sam Smith and the cypher will be complete for that global takeover

I don't think anybody can have any reasonable problem with paying $10 a month for one of these services but you've gotta admit its kind of :scust: for someone like Jay Z to be whinning in the public that people in the music industry don't make enough money when he's built his rap career on bragging out how many millions he's worth.

It's shytty if Aloe Blac and his writers got a $4000 check for 168 million streams but I don't get how Tidal is going to magically fix this problem. Most subscribers are still going to be paying $10/month. How is Tidal going to pay artists/writers/producers/engineers more if they're making the same amount of money per customer that Spotify does.

Also...

This quote from the interview:

Is it the same equity across the board?

Yes. We’re super-transparent, and I think that’s part of it. We want to be transparent, we want to give people their data; they can see it. If somebody streams your record in Iowa, you see it. No more shell games. Just transparency.

So the founding members all got the same equity, and now we have a second round and everyone gets the same in that one as well, but it’s not as large as the first tier. We want to keep it going. We want to make this thing successful and then create another round and another round. That’s the dream, that’s the utopia. Everyone is sharing in it; everyone is some kind of owner in it in some kind of way.

shyt sounds like a pyramid scheme. :mjlol:
