Got into a discussion with the homies about when this generation of rap is over, who will be forgotten or their run will be underrated :jbhmm:

Wiz came up and after looking up his discography and stats, he might be a comfortable 2nd in popularity to Drake.
I was in high school when Wiz really started gaining steam and to take a phrase from TSC, he was a transitional champ from Wayne to Drake. Dudes was getting them color streaks in their hair , plus the camo shorts and Chucks trend got popular cause of him.

He has 2 gold and 2 multiplatinum albums. His albums are all :trash: but no denying his mixtape catalog is crazy, 1 or 2 definite classics. Has a semi successful record label (Juicy J, Ty Dolla Sign), built a good relationship with an OG:snoop: who's probably putting him on how to translate from rapper to celebrity personality.
And look at all these hits, regardless if you liked em or not :whoo:
Black And Yellow
Roll Up
No Sleep
Young, Wild & Free
Work Hard, Play Hard
Remember You
We Own It
We Dem Boyz
See You Again

The success is kinda puzzling, he has diehard fans but it seems like no one cares on the level of Drake, Kendrick, Cole or even Big Sean and Future :patrice: Is he this generation's Nelly or something else?

He's basically the updated version of Snoop. Hugely popular and kind of transcending, yet recently, people only mess with his singles and not much more. Me personally, I don't think he sucks at all. You can't really place him with Cole or Kendrick lyrically, but he can rap when he wants and has made a lot of very good songs. Kush & OJ, Taylor Allderdice, and 28 Grams still get regular spin with me, and I've bumped Rude Awakening like crazy, and The Race, The Bluff, and The Plan are some of my favorite songs from him.

As someone whose been listening to Wiz since 2008 and watched his transition from Baggy clothes wearing, Dipset soundalike to mellow stoner to all out hippy/weirdo, it's really hard for me to put a finger on his place in the game. He always puts out humongous singles that are obvious hits but you rarely if ever run into anyone, online or off, discussing his bodies of work. For the streak of mega hits he has and the size of his fanbase, for some reason it doesn't translate to album buzz/sales.

As a diehard fan of his old stuff I personally only check for mixtapes and stuff he does with Curren$y at this point. His mainstream career has been disappointing in terms of quality (I can't get through any album he's put out since he got signed) but then he'll make something like this that reminds me what made me such a big fan a few years ago...
