Yep there were a lot of rumors about them being swingers and becoming Scientologists. He also got backlash for being gay in that movie, which followed him for a long time. The Duane Martin rumors too! People are definitely having some revisionist history. Not to mention, Black people were much less accepting of Hollywood weirdos 20 years ago as we are now, but even then people still liked and supported them. That shows the strength of his brand.

Also, Jada and the kids were a big part of his brand, compared to Denzel Washington who everyone knew was married but we only saw Pauletta for events.
