its called a CMOS battery on the motherboard. It's simply a coin cell battery that feeds enough power to store the date and time. If you notice your date and time starting to fall off sync every time you fully power down your system, then it is time to replace the battery.

so even when its off. its never truly OFF, its a battery inside that keeps it on, which keeps the time.

any other device that goes all the way off without such a battery will go back to 12:00. and if you dont have to manually set it. it may set itself from being hooked up to the internet or to 3G/4G networks. same difference.

Point being, I watched the Finals last night on my 360. I'll still have my 360 for all of those apps,

I haven't played a game on my Xbox in like 8 months. Only shyt that gets used is the ESPN app.
