I've had the DJI Mavic Air 2 for 2 years.
I've taken it at least to 1300 feet high and 3 miles away. I believe you're generally only legally allowed to go 400
feet from the ground. You can set a height and distance limit in the software, but I had erroneously set the limit to 400
meters. Also you're supposed to maintain line sight with it all times. That can be difficult when the relatively small device is far away. There are many videos on Youtube of people taking it 4+ miles away. Keep in mind that you need battery power to make it back and a headwind will take extra battery juice to overcome. Its best to send it into the headwind and on that way the wind should be at the drone's back on the return trip.
Since the release of the Mavic Air 2S last year, the price of the Mavic Air 2 has dropped to about
$1000 for the drone and 3 batteries. I think its a good deal. Each battery lasts about 25 - 30 minutes.
