The thing is, depending on where you are in the country, there is a vast difference in what you can buy.
Say in the USA: you can get something a lot bigger for 300k in Atlanta than you can LA.
Or Nigeria: you can get a massive house with a lot of land in Maiduguri than the humble house you could get in Lagos.

A lot of people are willing to pay a premium to live in a big city with opportunities.
