I have a friend who is academicly smart, good with maths but his common sense is very low, he can get hustled by the crapists hustlers in the world or tricked by females, i know a few people who are book smart but are not "intelligent"

i dont consider myself smart, but i know what i know, i can handle myself pretty well

what really requires a person to be smart?

It's really based on how well you are able to recall/apply/adjust/re-invent things you've learned
So he may not have gotten hustled/tricked enough yet to understand the game

Some of us are able to learn from other people's mistakes, while some of us need to make the same mistake to learn :manny:

but the term "book smart" is a low-key derogatory term nikkas try to say about folks to minimize their educational success. Not saying you're doing to your friend

One thing I notice with highly intelligent people is their focus. They're also really sharp listeners.

Matter of fact:
People with higher IQs are slow to detect large background movements because their brains filter out non-essential information, say US researchers………..In an initial study on 12 people, there was a 64% correlation between motion suppression and IQ scores. In this larger study on 53 people, a 71% correlation was found

Yes, the sample size was low, but also form personal experience, I find this to be the case. Talk with someone who's bright, then someone who's even just "average" and notice how many times you get interrupted.

There's no one size fits all answer. If we're talking about book smarts then that's really easy to figure out. High GPA = smart. Low GPA = dumb. To me, you're smart, if you can do something better than me. I'm an undergrad, and to me the grad students I occasionally encounter that can chug out mathematical proofs at the drop of a hat are pretty smart.

I'm sure once I get to grad school my whole perception of them will be refined.

Sorry bruh, that's how the world turns. If you want to go to a decent college, the administrators are not going to care how impeccable your verbal game is or how many upvotes you have on Worldstar. They are going to look at your GPA.

^ Exactly. Smart is different things to different people.

Personally, I also really respect people who are verbally skilled, can get across their ideas well and are funny. I think it's a really underrated personality / character trait. That's why I don't mind perusing forums like these. There's a lot of really good posters here.
