because i just dont see it

dude has been good or average his entire career. When exactly was he ever great?

i give props for his clutch moments hes had over his career, dude is definitely clutch but so was Robert Horry.Being clucth doesnt mean youre great it just means youre clutch

im watching first take and Stephen A mentioning this nikka with Ali and Jordan :comeon:

to me thats just disrespectful. At no point in time did Jeter ever dominate his sport or was ever even close to being the best player in his sport

some people actually call this nikka the goat yankee...when you look at all the greats to ever put on that uni how can seriously say Jeter is the goat yankee or even put him in the discussion

this is not a hate thread either,i seriously want to know why people think dude is so great

if he had the same exact #s but played in Cincy his whole career would people be overrating him like they do now?

If he played in Cincinnati he'd be a 3X MVP :stopitslime:

All his contemporaries are roiders (Nomar, A-Rod, Tejada) and hsi #'s were right up there

couple reasons:

- he's been consistently good to great his whole career in terms of hitting and fielding....the cat is gonna finish high on a lot of hitting lists...

- he hasn't had off the field issues nor buckled under the spotlight and weight of the ny media...

- he plays for the yankees...that shyt matters...

...I don't think he's up there with mj or ali, but that was SAS's opinion and how he feels, so it's cool....I do think jeter deserves all the props he gets...

so basically you dont know why people think hes great either

stop it,he wouldnt have won no damn 3 mvps in Cincy and his #s arent "right up there" either

only 3 seasons with 80 or more RBIs and only 3 season with atleast 20 homers

yea those #s are right up there with the rest of the greats :comeon:

i dont think hes ever been great.I agree hes been consistently good and has had some big clutch moments in his career but being consistently good doesnt make you great nor does playing for the the yankees or not having off the field issues make you great either

lifetime .300+ batting average, 5 world series, and over 3000 hits is gonna get you mentioned with the greats no matter what. especially if you weren't on the juice.

what do you consider great?...did he have historic seasons? no...but he's always had a damn good batting avg, fielding percentage, and like you said, he's always made the big/clutch play when the yanks needed it....knowing they could count on him to make those plays adds weight...also, you're being naïve if you don't think him playing for the Yankees (most storied franchise in baseball) and the fact he's been pretty squeaky clean off the field doesn't play a part in elevating him in people's eyes...
