Like is it work ethic, or genetics or just their game.

Like Kobe and Jordan and other nikkas known for having "GOAT work ethic"

Guys like Jordan, Lebron and Wilt got "GOAT genetics"

Then you hear about a guy who was cold af in HS or college but scouts be like "i dont know if his game will transfer well in the NBA"

Is it confidence?(Kwame Brown)

Like I watch games and think to myself, like damn whats stopping a dude liek nick young or sumbody from becoming a franchise player. They already better than 99% of the world, and have the tools to make the NBA, so why cant their game elevate to superstar level. YOu read about these guys and they were the best player in the city/state even the nation at some point. Is it safe to say that the majority of NBA players "waste" their potential?

THREE-OH-FIVE TILL I DIE
Right place at the right time.
Also, I'm looking at LeBron right now in his 5th straight championship.
I'm a Heat fan, but I'm impressed that the nga has the durability to still be doing this.

Not taking anything away from D Wade and Bosh. But, I almost feel like they're greatful not to be in the grind again.

LeBron, though? That nga was built for this.

Can the majority of NBA players become superstars if they wanted to?

:leostare:The GOATS are usually sociopaths with no social lives who spend most of their time perfecting their craft and watching film. The occasional all-stars and decent players half-ass it as compared to the superstars. Then factor in luck with the women, drugs, alcohol, and injuries that could derail a career.

It's complicated.

It's not just a matter of working hard. A lot of people work hard.

Some of it is natural gift.
Some is having the right coaches around you.
Some is hard work.
Some is intelligence.

Dwight Howard is as physically gifted as you can be. But he's never quite been that same dominant force as say, Hakeem.

I don't think it's a matter of Howard not working hard. When you get to the top of any sport, people have tools and people work hard (generally). It's being able to put it all together.

That's what makes a superstar.
How do they put it all together? I don't think anyone has a right answer to that. It kinda just happens.

I don't mean to pick on Dwight, so let's not focus on him. I just used him as an example of a guy who I personally feel could have been a lot better.

It's clearly work ethic for the most part IMO. There are a lot of athletic and genetic freaks in the league; hell you almost have to be one to make the league in the first place. But all of the GOATs are known for their work ethic - Magic, Bron, MJ, Kobe, etc - with very few exceptions. Even the ones who aren't looked at as hard workers developed tremendous fundamental skills early on in life before they even hit the league (think a guy like Shaq or Barkley).

Basketball is also the easiest to predict success from an early age amongst the major team sports. Most of the top superstars in the league were the top players in their high school classes as well. It's a very skill based sport.

Deion and Michael Irvin got high and chased women too. And they worked hard and reached the pinnacle of their sport as well.

You can work hard and chase women.
Or are we gonna forget about a certain star athlete fukkin a white thot in Colorado?

No they'res a reason there is only so many great players. To make a pro league you need to be in the .01 percentile of the population then to be the great ones you have to be the .0001 percent of that

Lebron James size speed endurance court vision is not something any other nba player can duplicate

Yea but different players are supertars for different reasons and all have different abilities.
You may not be able to duplicate lebron, but what about Kobe? Jason Kidd? KG? Prime Tmac etc..
