It's becoming more and more important in the NBA. Stevens is the biggest asset the Celtics have.

NFL
I feel like its easier for talent to make up for whatever a coach might lack in X's and O's in the NBA than in the NFL. You can have one supremely talented player win games for you, or carry a team for stretches of a time in the NBA.

No matter how much talent is on an NFL roster, teams are more dependent on the coach to put that talent in a position to be successful imo.

But even with that he will only get them so far without a true franchise talent

Unless you have a top 3-5 player in the league on your team you're not winning a title

NBA

NFL coaches rely on Offensive and Defensive Coordinators.
they have coordinators in nba too. You have dudes like Alvin gentry helping

Its nfl. Remember the 49ers a few years back? Harbaugh comes in and takes them to championship games. Same with rex. Good coaches hire good staff.

NFL in my opinion. NFL seems to be the only sport you implement an individual gameplan for each game. It could be just cause I'm a Pats fan so I'm always watching the best NFL coach in the league so I couldn't blame a Spurs fan if he picked the NBA.

Same goes with the QB though in football. We're Dirk and Duncan even top 5 at that point?

and Russell Wilson wasn't top 5

erik spoelstra won 2 championships. Is he a goat coach

also you have players shytting on david blatt earlier. That wouldn't happen in the nfl. if it did that coach is getting fired

Well because of the rules the qb is the most important position in sports and covers tons of ills but scheme is still important and you can beat a superior team with coaching

In the NBA the better team with the best player wins 99% of the time

In the nba a huge upset is a 5 beating a 4 seed

Since 1980 only 5 teams lower then a 3 seed have even made it to the finals and each of those teams had extenuating circumstances or they would have been top 3 seeds

Talent wins in the nba you can't coach your way to a title with a drastically inferior team

We've seen that before though. The year he won Coach of the Year Doc was basically the biggest asset on that Magic squad. But like this Boston team that Orlando team wasn't relevant, they were just overachieving. Brad Stevens isn't going to be the most important asset on a serious contending team.

IMO opinion it's an irrelevant question because it depends on your squad

You got someone like Peyton who can handle things himself, granted he hasn't won a Super Bowl lately but you can't deny he runs shyt

Someone like Lebron is the same shyt

Of course there are many more examples just naming the obvious ones

But there is also some stars that need more direction and coaching though still putting up big numbers

To me it just depends on your players
