I see the term 'classic album' being used a lot. What actually makes an album qualify as one? Illmatic for example is an undeniable classic, though GKMC is often debated on.

Impact, influential to other emcees, a game changer, definitive album of an era.

edit: Quality comes last. A classic album doesn't mean no skippables :comeon:
i feel like its hard to make an impact or influence emcees nowadays though fam.

Replay value. Plain and simple
i agree. if its an album i can see myself playing 5, 10 years later its a classic to me.
If its an album that I've still been playing after 3,5, 10 years its a classic to me.

As far as mixtapes and albums

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Live Love A$AP
Watch the Throne
BFK
Ambition
The Greatest Story Never Told
Rich gang - Tha Tour
and a few otheres are all recent classics to me for that reason

Basically you had to of come out in the 90's or earlier, has to be by an artist who used to make good music but would struggle to get signed if they came out nowadays and have to be rapping over production that would never make it by today's standards.

Basically you have to fit 30-40 year olds' nostalgia. That's it.

That's because a lot of styles get recycled and the game is filled with a bunch of copycats. But at the top there's a couple artists that have made a noticeable impact/influence on other artists.

Replay value. Determined after at least 10 years after release. Preferably 15 and more

Yeah but surely that would come under personal classics? I mean, I know you like to shyt on Eminem so you won't be replaying him in 10 years, same goes for me with A$ap
Replay value is determined on how much you enjoy listening to the rapper, I can bang with Em, Immortal tech, Xzibit, Nas albums for a few months and not get bored. I'm talking about the undeniable classics like Illmatic, Death Certificate, The Chronic etc
