I always though Roccafella was 100% independent to put the music out.

Roc-A-Fella initially had a deal with Priority Records. It flamed out. They then got a partnership deal with Def Jam afterwards. But to be fair, Roc-A-Fella was independent in 1995 but needed major distribution which is why they went to Priority. Reasonable Doubt is under Priority. I think that and that Christion debut album were the only Priority Records/Roc-A-Fella albums that were released.
