Pac told a story about Dre bein up in the studio with Clinton and them working together so even tho the beat was old, I had thought they worked together on the track and Dre seemed cool with Pac during their appearances on MTV and shyt.
Regardless, I don't think it was just Dre wanting to leave. Dre was also up in the media sayin slick shyt about how gangsta rap was dead and gangsta imagery was dead, hoes and 40s was dead and all these subs bein thrown at the rest of the coast.
Which is funny because then when The Firm didn't take off he went with Em who was nothing but violent imagery (not gangsta but still against what Dre wanted to be about) and THEN if that wasn't fukked up enough Dre went straight back to G shyt on 2001.. like he never left and we was all supposed to forget that he deaded it
But I ain't care because the album was and is a classic and that's what I needed from Dre
