Bruh they had a toy line set up and everything afterwards. They basically set up an entire label based off Philly rappers and told him "thus is yours" and he couldn't see the vision. They were trying to give him an offer he couldn't refuse, yet he still refused it :martin:

Image and personality.... Not that they were bad just not ripe for mainstream success. Also what was HIS crossover/mainstream songs? He didn't seem to want to be that rick ross type guy or make songs to appeal to females

roc break up combined with legal troubles is what derailed his career. He is nice enough he coulda bounced back tho. He could have and should have been Rick Ross level. But a combination of his own mistakes and shyt out of his control is why it didnt happen.

“Beans I ain’t tryna change you just give you some game
To make the transition from the streets to the fame” -
Jay

Jay and Dame gave him every tool to become his own boss. I’d go as far to say he had MORE gifted to him to capitalize on than Ross but everybody doesn’t have that disposition or inherent desire. Like Prop Joe said about Marlo “it ain’t easy civilizing this mf”.

He was never gonna be Ross level, and never was going to be a superstar. Ross sat on the shelf for years before he caught on. He's also reinvented himself several times. Beans doesn't make the type of music that would ever catch on like that to the mainstream, outside of a couple of tracks here and there. His biggest tracks were street anthems...even with Jigga. Beans was never gonna be above Styles level. He can't even crossover to the non-hood chicks.

He's too gutter, doesn't have the superstar aura or mainstream charisma.

yo ass tucking yo chain and calling other nikkas to keep you safe
That’s basically what I feel when I see herbs always trying to get street dudes to do dirt in the name of the community. Case in point, Zimmerman. They shun the neighborhood dude cause they look at him as an embarrassment but when it’s some shyt like that, then they want them to handle it cause they feel they’re expendable anyway.

To keep it a bean (no pun intended), he’s not even “hood fly” i.e. Westside Gunn, Smoke DZA, early Nas, Raekwon etc.

Production.

Both had good production but Beans stuff was more of a melancholic type of vibe where Ross had a better mix of up beat stuff.

He took himself too seriously and he was more concerned with being a real nikka than a rapper
