You can justify reasons for any stat that's the whole point.

Nah, you have to actually apply the stat correctly.

If you look at one player's Assist % and nothing else then you will have no idea what that number you just looked up means.

Most people I've seen backlash against stats don't know what they mean and feel like they are above trying to figure it out.

If you can't compete in the stats discussion just bow out rather than trying to throw a tantrum about how you don't like it.

Corny ass metric......the shyt means nothing.....just another way for espn and the like to hire nerds and pretend they are a high intellect company like Intel or Goldman Sachs.....and a way for uncoordinated nerds to have a place in sports.....that's it the end.

+/- is way less important in bball than in hockey, from which this metric originates in the first place

simply because you dont have clear lines that play with each other in bball like you do in hockey and players simply dont rotate as much. in general, the less the bench/rotational players play, the less useful +/- is.

in hockey you beat a team 5-2 but your forward is -2...it means that not only did his line most likely NOT score, they were the ones who gave up the goals. ie, its clear indication of you sucking

hockey also doesnt have as much garbage time as bball which skews up stats, as each goal's value is far more than a single bucket.

easy example, Dubs are up by 30 and they play 1 starter and 4 scrubs for like 10 minutes...that starter gets hit with -10 when the scrubs and that one starter give up a 10 point run...but in reality...they were just closing the game out in garbage time.
