What the hell is up with this recent trend of advertising the director’s name in a movie title/promotion?

Nobody was fukkin saying Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood
Fam, every trailer I posted literally mention's the director before any of the cast or the name of the movie. "Tarantino's whatever number film" for example. That is directly marketing off the director's name. A long while ago, you had no idea who was directing a movie based off of trailers.

Directors mean more to push films than many actors do these days. I’ve noticed that trend since at least 2018.

Nah. Ask someone who stared in marvel movies and they can name them. Ask them who directed it and they usually can't. Probably why directors pushing to have their names out more now, nobody knows who they are.
