She wants me to stay at the current job, we have a lot more free time together, she says she has noticed I'm less stressed, happier, etc. Honestly, almost everyone I've talked to in my personal life has said its better to stay at the current job, other than my dad and brother, who want me to come back.

In terms of sacrifice, not much day to day, we aren't struggling or anything like that. But overall, obv. being able to do something like buying properties to rent out is going to be a lot harder moving forward if I stick with this job.

There you have it. I'm sure at the rate you were burning the candles, your marriage would eventually suffer. With the government, you should be able to secure raises and being able to move as you get some years under your belt.

If you feel the need to go back to your family's business, set limits. Part time work requires part time hours.

Personally, after your wife said what she did, that'd be it for me.

So I'm in a situation where I don't know what to do.

I was working at my previous job where it was around 55-60 hours a week, 6-7 days a week, high stress job, salary is $120k, with no benefits (which doesn't technically matter since my fiance gets full benefits and I will be covered through her plan), work in the office.

I'm now working at a govt job for the past 9 months that is in a related field, hours are 40 hours, 5 days a week, salary is $60k, with full benefits, wfh and very little stress.

The previous job was a family business and I'm thinking of going back solely because of the pay. Issue is I just don't know what to do. I enjoy my new job, but I feel as though I'm missing a lot in terms of my pay. But working 40 hours a week from home and having so much free time is great.

The way I see it, its either work longer hours with more pay and poor work-life balance, or work less hours with less pay and better work-life balance. So its money vs work-life balance.

Basically, I don't know if I should go back or whether I should stick with my current job. Any ideas?

I'm just playing.

I worked a job before where I worked 60-80 hr/wk and it was good money, but it was worth it and not worth it. It was worth it because I saved enough money to buy property, but then I missed out on some things like parties and other shyt. I worked hard early on so I can enjoy later on.

But I'm always money first.

no doubt, and what you're saying makes sense. one of the reasons I'm bringing this up now is that my brother will be closing on his first rental property in the next few months. I can't do that yet, I don't have as much disposable income to save every month compared to him with the pay cut. So sometimes I think maybe go back, grind it out for a few years, save up, and at least be able to buy a couple of rental properties down the line.

She wants me to stay at the current job, we have a lot more free time together, she says she has noticed I'm less stressed, happier, etc. Honestly, almost everyone I've talked to in my personal life has said its better to stay at the current job, other than my dad and brother, who want me to come back.

Ah, here it is.

No disrespect, but what your brother and father want or are doing should be way farther down your priority list.
You don’t have to measure your life by what they do with theirs.
