No one is insisting Nash and those other guys are first team defenders like people still do with Kobe. Even a broken back Dwight absolutely shyts on Kobe defensively. That isn't saying much but there was no reason to lump them together as an excuse.
Kobe routinely got the easiest assignments, even in his prime, and he never did anything impressive. He has mostly coasted and would purposely get lost on screens and he'd just live off reputation based on having 1-2 games a year and maybe 1 possession a game where he actually tried.
There is no exaggeration here, his defense is garbage.
