Above the fray.
This is a construction job. I’ve had construction interviews before and I was the only person in the office with a tie & suit on(felt and looked goofy).

I ended up getting that job, my foreman later said never to dress that well for a construction position it sends the wrong message.

so should I go in there with my steel toes, dikkies and a carhartt work shirt :jbhmm:
What do you think he meant by "dressing like that sends the wrong message".

I think he was trying to sabotage your potential rise to management.

Normally I just Dress a step up from what everyone else normally wears. So if it’s a casual jean and T-shirt environment, throw on a button up shirt and chinos. If it’s business casual, I’ll wear a suit and tie.

Would never want to be in management. All my foremen were fat and just sat in they trucks all day. I like being out and actually doing work.

Sounds good................................for now. A decade or so of the physical toll of construction work might make you reconsider.

Fukk that... Take it from me, I come from a blue collar background. I always wore a well cut navy suit, white shirt, red tie, and brown cap toe oxfords (brown to not be too formal). I'm assuming you're a black man, sh1t gets fickle when it comes to how we dress.

What's he going to say? He is very qualified and he has all of the industry certifications that we're looking for but he came in here wearing a suit, so we will pass... Then he sounds stupid as fukk and in his mind it won't even make sense. On the other hand, if you came in there casual... Then it's, well I know we are in a rugged environment but we're still expected to be professional and you don't come to an interview wearing jeans, we will pass.
