That shyt started in jail right? Cause you hear it in jail A LOT. Damn near every nikka over 30 is Unk. I don't really hear it on the street like that. It's still a hood term tho.

It's a hood term for sure. It's not mainstream slang. Found something on Urban Dictionary that said it started in Cali:patrice: I'm not sure what state it originated in but the definition mentions prison like I thought. The general definition is pretty much on point tho

Unk
An endearing term, stemming from the word "uncle", that describes an older male friend, mentor, counselor, guardian, or paternal-figure, whom demonstrates unconditional love and concern for the well-being of teenage knuckleheads and delinquent thugs. Originates in the Juvenile Detention System, San Francisco, California.

All my nephews hit me with the 'watup Unc'...with a 'c'..as in short for 'uncle'.

I never really even noticed the term until i became an uncle, now that I think about it. :manny:

I thought unk was kinda derogatory

I saw on Urban Dictionary that people use it to refer to Crackheads in the D.C. area. I never really heard it to be used to be disrespectful like that tho. It's just more of a term for a person older than you. Like not respectful, but not disrespectful either. Like if you at the corner store and see a nikka like 10+ years older than you, you might call him unk
